Restarting and Reregistering an Instance Agent

You restart and reregister an instance agent without unmounting/mounting remote memory locations and without unbinding/binding the virtual host name in a single or in a mass operation.

Prerequisites

  • The general prerequisites for instance operations have been met.

  • The instance status is Not running Not running.

  • The instance managed by the instance agent must not represent a database.

  • If the instance managed by the instance agent is already running, you must not execute this operation because you would cause the instance to be restarted.

Context

Instance agents are automatically installed and started during the installation of any SAP NetWeaver component. An instance agent runs for each instance monitored. You perform this operation for example to troubleshoot problems with the instance agents.

Procedure

  1. Choose Operations.
  2. Choose Systems from the tabs.
  3. From the Operations dropdown for the instance, choose Start of the navigation pathForced Next navigation step Forced Restart and Reregister Instance AgentEnd of the navigation path.

    To execute this operation as mass operation, choose Start of the navigation pathMass Operations Next navigation step Forced Next navigation step Forced Restart and Reregister Instance AgentEnd of the navigation path and ensure that the entities on which you want to execute the operation are displayed and selected.

  4. Optional: SAP Landscape Management checks if the host assigned to the instance meets the requirements of the instance. These requirements include RAM, SAPs, and so on. To ignore this host check, select the Ignore Host Check checkbox.
  5. Optional: SAP Landscape Management checks if intersystem dependencies are defined, and either performs the necessary action or prompts you to decide whether to proceed with the operation. To ignore any intersystem dependencies, select the Ignore Intersystem Dependencies checkbox.
  6. Optional: Select the Set Note checkbox and enter a note to be displayed in the Description column of the instance.
  7. Choose Execute.

Results

  1. Stops the instance agent.
  2. Unregisters the instance agent.
  3. Registers the instance agent.
  4. Starts the instance agent.
  5. Sets the instance agent status to Running Running.
