Creating Custom Provisioning Processes

To replace or add additional custom provider definitions to the storage or rename step during system provisioning, you configure custom provisioning processes.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a provider definition that can be used for provisioning replacement.

For more information, see Provider Definitions.

  • You know which provisioning steps can be replaced for storage cloning or system rename.

For more information, see Replaceable Provisioning Steps.

Context

You configure custom provisioning processes for the following use cases:

  • Not all prerequisites for the standard provisioning processes are fulfilled.

  • The standard behavior is not suitable for your requirements.

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation pathAutomation Studio Next navigation step Custom ProvisioningEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Choose Create.
  3. Enter a unique name for your custom provisioning process.
  4. Select the step you want to replace.
  5. Choose Add Replacement Step.
    1. Adapt the name of the replacement step.
    2. Choose the provider definition.
    3. Choose the instance type on which you want to perform the operation.
  6. Optional: Add further replacement steps.
  7. Optional: Replace further steps of this provisioning process.
  8. Choose Create Custom Provisioning Process.

Results

Now you are ready to enable custom provisioning and to assign the relevant system.

  • Storage cloning replacements:

Replacements have to copy the relevant data of the instances to the target hosts. The data consistency has to be ensured by the custom operation replacements. The standard step is not executed if at least one custom operation replacement is configured for the storage clone step. If the software provisioning manager is used for the database, the custom operation replacement has to create the database description files.

  • System renaming replacements:

Replacements have to recover, rename, and register the instances. SAP Landscape Management executes the software provisioning manager for all not assigned instances.
