SAP HANA Replication
This section provides information for performing replication operations on SAP HANA systems. System replication is a mechanism for ensuring the high availability of your SAP HANA system. Through the continuous replication of data from a primary to a secondary system, including in-memory loading, system replication facilitates rapid failover in the event of a disaster. Productive operations can be resumed with minimal downtime.
Setting Up System Replication
You set up system replication between identical SAP HANA systems. Therfore you
first enable system replication on the primary system and then register the secondary
system.
System Replication Mode Combinations
This section describes system replication mode combinations in a multitier system
replication scenario.
System Replication Operation Modes
This section describes the operation modes available for system replication.
Changing Replication Modes
The replication mode can be changed without having to go through a full data shipping
from the primary to the secondary afterwards.
Configuring HA/DR Provider Hook (Update)
You want to update parameters that are relevant for the hook such as changing the
timeout while writing the replication status.
Disabling System Replication
You disable system replication on the primary system or tier 2 secondary system (source
system).
Enabling Column Table Preload
You enable the preload of column table main parts to make certain tables and columns
used by important processes available more quickly.
Enabling Log Retention Propagation
You enable log retention propagation to retain the log based on the smallest savepoint
log position in the whole system replication landscape.
Enabling System Replication
You enable system replication on the primary system or tier 2 secondary system (source
system) and provide a logical name for the system.
Enabling or Disabling Full Sync Replication
When activated the full sync option for system replication ensures that a log buffer is
shipped to the secondary system before a commit takes place on the local primary
system.
Monitoring System Replication
To ensure rapid takeover in the event of planned or unplanned downtime, you can monitor
the status of replication between the primary system and the secondary system.
Performing a Forced System Replication Takeover
If your primary system is not available, due to a disaster or planned downtime for
example, and you have decided to fail over to the secondary system, you can perform a forced
system replication takeover on your secondary node.
Registering a Secondary Tier for System Replication
You register the secondary system with the primary system for system
replication.
Starting Check of Replication Status Share
Due to any reason the replication status share check has been stopped. You can use
this operation to continue the replication status share check.
Stopping Replicated Multi-Tier SAP HANA Systems
You stop nodes of a replicated multi-tier SAP HANA system.
Testing HA/DR Provider Hook
You can check, whether the SAP Landscape Management HA/DR provider hook is
configured appropriately.
Unregistering Secondary Tier from System Replication
You unregister a secondary tier from system replication.
Unregistering System Replication Site on Primary
You unregister a system replication site on a primary system, if a secondary system is
not available anymore. For example because it was uninstalled or is unrecoverable after a
disaster, and the primary system needs to be cleaned up to be able to register a new
site.
