Performing a Near Zero Downtime SAP HANA Update on Primary Tier

You can update an SAP HANA database and the SAP HANA database components with near zero downtime if the database is replicated, and you are updating the primary tier. After the update, the database is started again with the updated components in place.

Prerequisites

The general prerequisites for instance operations have been met.

You comply with all prerequisites described in the Operations Guide for SAP HANA Tenant Databases.

The database is replicated, and you are performing an update on a primary tier.

You have retrieved the SAP HANA version and component versions.

For more information, see Configuring Additional Instance Information.
You have prepared your upgrade files on a host, and you have succesfully created an SAP HANA update repository, which has discovered release configurations (the SAP HANA update files).

Optional: You have specified the system user credentials and sidadm password during instance configuration.

Context

Using SAP HANA hdblcm mechanism, the SAP HANA database and its components can be updated to desired versions.

Procedure

Choose Operations.
Choose Systems from the tabs.
From the Operations dropdown for the tenant database, choose SAP HANA Processes Near Zero Downtime SAP HANA Update on Primary Tier.
Choose  Parameters Required .
Navigate through the workflow and provide the parameters required.
Choose Set.
Choose Next.

All steps included in the process are displayed in a graphical form.

Choose Execute.
