SAP Landscape Management 3.0, Enterprise Edition

Creating Rolling Kernel Switch Configurations

You can configure all kernels centrally that you want to use in your landscape for a rolling kernel switch.

Prerequisites

  • The rolling kernel switch is a protected method of the instance agent.

For more information, see SAP Note 1474866 Information published on SAP site - Instance Agent Security settings for SAP LVM / ACC.

  • You have prepared the rolling kernel switch media.

For more information, see Preparing Rolling Kernel Switch Media.

  • Optional: You have created a repository.

For more information, see Creating Rolling Kernel Switch Repositories.

  • Ensure that each directory contains at least the following archives:

    • SAPEXE_<Patchlevel>-<SWF_GUID>.SAR
    • SAPEXEDB_<Patchlevel>-<SWF_GUID>.SAR
  • You have used command SAPCAR <SAR_ARCHIVE> <FILENAME> to extract the following files from the <SAR> archives to the same directory:

    • sapmanifest.mf

    • sapmanifestdb.mf

  • You have only one kernel patch in each unique volume or directory.

For more information about checking the compatibility level of the archives, see RKS - Checking Compatibility of Two Kernel Versions.
