Creating Rolling Kernel Switch Configurations
You can configure all kernels centrally that you want to use in your landscape for a rolling kernel switch.
Prerequisites
-
The rolling kernel switch is a protected method of the instance agent.
For more information, see SAP Note 1474866 - Instance Agent Security settings for SAP LVM / ACC.
-
You have prepared the rolling kernel switch media.
For more information, see Preparing Rolling Kernel Switch Media.
-
Optional: You have created a repository.
For more information, see Creating Rolling Kernel Switch Repositories.
-
Ensure that each directory contains at least the following archives:
- SAPEXE_<Patchlevel>-<SWF_GUID>.SAR
- SAPEXEDB_<Patchlevel>-<SWF_GUID>.SAR
-
You have used command SAPCAR <SAR_ARCHIVE> <FILENAME> to extract the following files from the <SAR> archives to the same directory:
-
sapmanifest.mf
-
sapmanifestdb.mf
-
-
You have only one kernel patch in each unique volume or directory.
For more information about checking the compatibility level of the archives, see RKS - Checking Compatibility of Two Kernel Versions.
