Using Graceful Shutdown

The graceful shutdown allows an ABAP application server instance to be stopped in the timeout specified and all logged users to be informed for shutdown.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Choose Operations.
  2. Choose Systems from the tabs.
  3. From the Operations dropdown for the ABAP application server instance, choose Graceful Shutdown Graceful Shutdown.

    To shutdown multiple instances at once, choose Start of the navigation pathMass Operations Next navigation step Graceful ShutdownEnd of the navigation path and ensure that the entities on which you want to execute the operation are displayed and selected.

  4. Specify the graceful timeout in seconds.

    The timeout specifies the time left until an application server instance will be stopped. If this timeout is exceeded, all users are automatically logged out and any running applications are closed.

  5. Specify the graceful threshold in seconds.

    After the time specified is reached, a system message indicating the time will be send.

  6. Optional: SAP Landscape Management checks if the host assigned to the instance meets the requirements of the instance. These requirements include RAM, SAPs, and so on. To ignore this host check, select the Ignore Host Check checkbox.
  7. Optional: SAP Landscape Management checks if intersystem dependencies are defined, and either performs the necessary action or prompts you to decide whether to proceed with the operation. To ignore any intersystem dependencies, select the Ignore Intersystem Dependencies checkbox.
  8. Optional: Select the Set Note checkbox and enter a note to be displayed in the Description column of the instance.
  9. Choose Execute.

Results

  1. SAP Landscape Management informs all users logged on the application server for shutdown. A system message appears and gives the advice to save the current data before the system will be stopped and the user will be logged out.

  2. SAP Landscape Management puts the application server into passive mode until the timeout specified is reached.

  3. When the timeout specified is reached, all users are automatically logged out and any running applications are closed.

  4. SAP Landscape Management stops the application server.
