SAP Landscape Management 3.0, Enterprise Edition

Defining Intersystem Dependencies

You define dependencies between systems to decide whether to start or stop systems when there are pending system queues for information flow. Hence, you can avoid any disruption of business processes, transactions, or data flow between these systems.

Prerequisites

  • You have obtained the user credentials of the LVM_SUPERADMIN group for defining dependencies.

For more information, see Standard Roles and Groups.

  • You have obtained the Instance(IgnoreISD) permission to ignore defined intersystem dependencies while performing instance operations.

For more information, see Standard Permissions.

  • You have configured systems and instances.

For more information, see Initial Entities Configuration.

Context

Whenever you perform an operation on a specific system, SAP Landscape Management either performs the necessary action or prompts you to decide whether to proceed with the operation.

You can define the dependencies in such a way that a system can depend on many systems and also can have many dependent systems.

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation pathConfiguration Next navigation step SystemsEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Select a system.
  3. On the System Details tab, choose Edit.
  4. In the Outgoing Intersystem Dependency section, choose Add.
  5. Provide the following information:
    Option Description

    From Instance(s)

Choose the instance type that you want to make dependent.

    To Depend(s) on SAP System

Choose the system on which the instance must be dependent.

    To Instance(s)

    Choose a specific instance.

  6. Save your entries.

Results

Based on the dependencies that you define on systems, following are the operation execution results:

When you start an instance of a depending system:

  • If the instance of the dependent system is a cluster type (application instances, database, TREX, Web dispatcher, ERS), at least one dependent instance must be running.

  • If the instance of the dependent system is a non-cluster type (central service instance (SCS), central instance, liveCache), all dependent instances must be running.

When you stop an instance of a depending system:

  • If the instance of the dependent system is a cluster type, the depending instance is stopped only when the last running dependent instance is stopped.

  • If the Instance of the dependent system is a non-cluster type, the depending instance is stopped.
