Configuring Pools

You configure pools and group pools into containers, to group the landscape entities logically and separate them physically.

Context

Logical grouping helps administrators to manage hosts and instances more efficiently. You can group identical or different pools into a container. The container can contain both pools and containers.

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation pathConfiguration Next navigation step PoolsEnd of the navigation path.
  2. In the Pool Overview area, proceed as follows:
    Field Action
    Add Pool

    To create a pool, select the root level entry and choose Add Pool.

    Add Container

    To create a container, select the root level entry and choose Add Container.

  3. Provide the following information:
    Field Action
    Name

    Enter a unique name to identify the pool or container.

    Description

    Enter a description to provide more information about how the pool or the container is used.

  4. To change the name or description of an existing pool or container, choose Edit.
  5. To move the pools or containers to another container, choose Move.
  6. To configure custom properties for the pool or container to centralize configurable and secure properties, choose Add in the Custom Properties area and provide the following information:

    Description

    Property Name

    Enter a name for the property.

    The name entered is available to the custom operations and custom hooks with the prefix PROP- <Property Name> .

    Property Value

    Enter the value for the property.

    Secure

    To store the values in the secure store, select this checkbox.

    The values are not visible in the LVM logs.

    All secure values are passed together in one single parameter named LVM_SEC_PARAMS as PROP- <property name>= <property value>

    Each value is contained in a new line together with the secure customer parameters.

    The custom properties are passed to any custom provisioning process, custom operation, or custom hook executed on an instance or host.

  7. Save your entries.

Next Steps

  • To remove a pool or container, select Remove. A dialog box displays all removable and non-removable pools and containers.
  • To display the pool hierarchy on the Operations screen, proceed as follows:
    1. Navigate to the Operations screen.
    2. Choose Table Properties.
    3. Choose Customize Table.
    4. Select the Pool Hierarchy checkbox.
