SAP Landscape Management 3.0, Enterprise Edition

Preparing SAP Application Instances on Windows

You use this procedure to enable the SAP application instances so that the instances can move across the computing nodes in a landscape consisting of adaptively installed instances.

Context

For moving the application instances, you implement them virtually in the landscape. This means that you decouple the instances from the underlying computing node with its file systems and settings.

Procedure

  1. Set up all application-instance-relevant data on a central storage system.
  2. Manage operating-system-related settings such as users, groups, instances, and host names using a central management tool, for example Microsoft Active Directory.
  3. Install the application instances on virtual host names to ensure that the application instance is always reachable by the same host name and IP address, irrespective of the host on which it is running.

    To host the application instances, the computing node must be assigned with its own physical IP address and the virtual IP address of the application instance.

  4. To use the managed application instances, adjust the profiles, ensuring the following settings in the instance profile:

    SAPLOCALHOST = <virtual host name>

    SAPLOCALHOSTFULL = <full qualified virtual host name>

    icm/host_name_full = <full qualified virtual host name>
