Function documentationGenerate and Manage Events

You can enter and edit Medication Events (events) at care units and in outpatient clinics. Generally, you can generate events for the following drug types:

  • Standard drugs

  • Infusionen

  • Nutritional solutions (TPN)

  • Compounds

The drug type in turn determines the appearance of the dialog for administering the drug.

Depending on the purpose of the medication order, the system generates different events. The purpose is crucial when deciding whether

  • the drug will be administered to the patient (administration event)

The system generates individual events for the administration depending on the dose definition and the cycle times.

  • the drug will be dispensed to the patient (dispensing event)

The system totals the individual events to an overall event and calculates the required amount for the dispensing. The system will calculate any necessary repeat events depending on the issue quantity and unit.

  • the drug is printed on a prescription for the patient (print prescription event)

The system totals the individual events to an overall event and calculates the required amount (package/container size) for the prescription printout. The system will calculate any necessary repeat events depending on the issue quantity and unit.

Note the following when generating events for medication orders:

  • You cannot generate events for an order with the internal status suspended.

  • You can generate further events for an order with the Dispensing and Print Prescription purposes, even if generated events already exist. This means that, if necessary, the system will generate further events when such an order is extended.

  • You cannot subsequently generate canceled events for an order with the internal status active or saved (with valid generated events).

In addition, the Create Emergency Event for Administration function is available in the following views:

Note Note

For events which must be prepared you can specifically display only events which, for example, must be prepared by the pharmacist in views of the Medication Events/Inpatient Nursing Services view type. See Prepare Drug.

End of the note.

Integration

You can generate events for the medication order by executing the following functions:

In the extended view of the order dialog you can also manually create an event on the Event tab page using the New Row function.

The functions for administering and managing medication events are available to differing degrees in dynpro and smart UI in the following places in the system:
