Creating an Emergency Event for Administration
If you wish to administer a drug to a patient during an emergency, you can create an emergency event. Emergency events are events which were not previously ordered, but are administered to the patient unplanned (not ordered) and immediately.
When you create an emergency event the system creates an order for this event in the background, which is immediately ended.
You can use the Create Emergency Event
function to add an extra administration for an ongoing order. To do this, select an order or event in the Medication Orders
or Medication Events
view type of the clinical work station, and call the Emergency Event
function. Provided the order type supports this action, a message box appears with the question Do you want to document an additional administration for this order?
The following options are available:
If you confirm the message box by choosing Yes
you directly access the administration dialog where you can document a new event for the selected order as "administered". The system displays this event in the chart as an extra event in the selected order.
Otherwise, the drug search appears. After you have selected a drug, an emergency administration is documented.
Note
Emergency events are only available for the administration purpose and not for the dispensing or print prescription purposes.
System administration must have defined the assignment of the drug to the fill sources of the organizational unit (OU) for which the emergency event is created.
Fill sources are assigned to OUs in the Implementation Guide
under .
System administration defines the assignment of the fill sources on the Storage
tab page in the drug master data or on the SAP Easy Access
screen by choosing .
Select a patient in a view of the Medication Events/Inpatient Nursing Services view type in the clinical work station and choose
(Create Emergency Event
). If you do not select a patient, the Emergency Event
screen appears for you to enter or search for the patient and the case.
Alternatively, choose the Medication: Create Emergency Event
hotspot in the Applications
UIBB in Smart UI to create an emergency event for the patient.
You access the drug search.
Caution
You can only select drugs which are directly assigned to the fill sources which belong to the OU.
In the drug search, select the drug(s) to be administered.
You access the Drug Administration
dialog box for administering the drug.
The system displays the events in the upper screen area.
Choose
(Detail
) in the row of the event to open this event in the lower screen area.
Enter data as required.
As standard, the system opens the eMAR
tab page where you can document, for example, the administered quantity.
Note
For infusions or nutritional solutions the system will open the additional Flow Rate Changes
tab page as standard. You must first define a flow rate before you can toggle to the eMAR
tab page. The system uses the entered flow rate to hang the first infusion bag.
Choose
(Check All
) to check the documentation of the emergency events.
Choose
(Continue Drug Administration
) to continue to prescribe the drug. The system copies the order of the emergency event depending on user parameter N1ME_SKIP_ORDER
, as follows:
If you set the user parameter to "Space" (standard value) you will access the new order, which is preset with the data of the event. You can supplement the missing order data in the order.
If you set the user parameter to X, the system creates the order using the existing order data according to the emergency event in the background with "Saved" status.
Choose
(Set Status to Administered
) to save the documentation and set the events to Administered
status.
