Medication Events/Nursing Services View Type
The Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type in the clinical work station offers a joint view of the medication events and nursing services of a care unit.
You can use this view type for medication events and nursing services or only for one of these.
If, for example, you use the view type for nursing services only, only selection criteria, functions and fields which refer to nursing services are relevant to you.
If, for example, you use the view type for medication events only, only selection criteria, functions and fields which refer to medication events are relevant to you.
Caution
The system does not automatically end medication orders when a discharge is documented. These orders remain valid in the system.
In the current case or in a possible future admission, nursing staff could administer a drug which is not intended from a medical point of view, which may cause contraindications.
Ensure that the Check Case Assignment of Order column is displayed in the Medication Events/Nursing Services view type in the clinical work station. If an order belongs to a case, which is already documented as "discharged", the column displays a warning icon with a quick info text.
We recommend that you end orders either manually or controlled by a report, when a patient is discharged. You should contact your project development partner regarding this.
To get an overview of the nursing services for the patient to be treated at any time, you can configure specific worklists (views) in the Clinical Work Station using the Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type.
Note
In the long-term the Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type will replace the nursing overview. The Nursing Overview
function is currently available in the Occupancy
, Arrivals
and Departures
view types.
If you wish to replace the nursing overview with the Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type now, you must remove the Nursing Overview
from the above mentioned view types and create the corresponding views for the Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type in your work environments.
You should note that the data in the view type can only be selected using the selection screen or selection variants. The user parameters of the nursing overview (e.g. OEE, LS4, etc.) are not therefore valid for the view type.

The Medication Events/Nursing Services
view type is a central tool for editing medication events. The view type is available for viewing all event information in one go and calling all available management and editing functions.
Note
If you select
(Replace Drug
), you can call the manual substitution for medication events. See Manual Substitution in Medication Events
You should note that you can only use the Medication Orders/Nursing Services
view type properly if you use the following components:
the Nursing component and/or
the Nursing Process Documentation component and/or
the Medication component
.
System administrators can configure selection variants to provide the user with the following selection fields for the selection screen:
Institution
Maximum Number of Hits
Manual Input of Selection Criteria
Goal
The system administrator wishes to define a view that users can use for making their own selections.
Example
A ward manager wishes to create a view of various care units.
Method
When the ward manger selects a view in the LaunchPad of the clinical work station, the system should not immediately compile the event list or the list of nursing services. The selection screen should appear for the ward manager to specify the OU to which the event or nursing service list is to relate.
Prerequisite
When configuring a view, the system administrator creates a selection variant in which the Man. Entry Sel. indicator is set.
System Behavior
When the user – in the present example, the ward manager – calls the view, the selection screen appears first. The selection data from the selection variant is displayed by default. The user can modify the selection data; for example, by selecting a different care unit. After changing the selection criteria you return to the view. The selections you have just made apply. These selections remain active throughout the session (in other words, for as long as you remain in the clinical work station). If you switch to a different view in the meantime, the settings remain in force.
Using
(Basic Settings
) you can reset the temporary changes for a view.
The next time you start the clinical work station, the default selections made by the system administrator for the view apply anew.
The selection screen also contains the following tab pages for restricting the selected data:

A specific field selection is available to you for each view type. Layouts enable you to define your own column sequence and sort order in relation to this field selection.
Note
If you display fields for quantities, e.g. units, doses, strengths etc, you should ensure that the quantity and the corresponding unit are always displayed adjacent to each other, otherwise it may be unclear to the user which unit belongs to which quantity.
