A selection variant is a set of selection criteria related to a view type with a unique identification.

When defining a selection variant, you can set the following indicators for each selection field:

  • Required Entry Field

  • Hide Field

  • Protect Field

The system will also take these selection variant attributes into account in the selection dialog boxes of the individual view types.

Each view type has different selection criteria, and, consequently, different selection variants. SAP standard selection variants are used to define selection variants.

Note Note

It can occur that selection variants you have defined for the Clinical Work Station in an earlier release give rise to the error message Variant & of program & is obsolete, when you try to modify the selection variant in the Change View function. SAP provides a conversion program that enables you to continue using these selection variants. You should refer to the information in SAP note 65343 for more details.
