Event Generation: Administration (All Drugs)
The event generation for the administration of standard drugs (for example, tablets, suppositories) and compounds (creams, ointments, and so on), infusions and nutritional solutions generates drug events from the medication order based on the start time of the order, the defined cycle, the dose definition and the order duration. This means the system determines all times in the order, at which the patient should receive a standard drug.
Because the system determines the event times starting from the start time of the order, it may generate events in the past.
Example
The start time of an order is at 7:58. As the cycle times (the cycle in use is twice daily at 8:00 and 16:00) the system will calculate 8:00 and 16:00. If you generate the events at 8:05, the system will also create an event for 8:00.
If you generally do not wish to create events in the past, you can control this using the Business Add-In N1_MEEVENT
.
You should note that the system calculates the events regardless of whether the cycle in use is defined with or without a fixed interval.
The following influential factors can result in exceptions to these generation regulations:
PRN Medication
indicator: If the ordering employee sets this indicator in the order, the system executes Event Generation for PRN Medication.
Immediate Dose
indicator: If the ordering employee sets this indicator, the system will create an event for the immediate administration in addition to the events for the cycle times (except if the start of the order lies in the future).
If you call the Resume Order
function, events are generated automatically without user interaction. See Resuming an Order.
When the Schedule Events
or Generate Events
function is executed the system determines the event generation period using the event generation horizon in the drug master data. If this value is not maintained for a drug, the system will determine the event generation horizon using the system parameter N1MEEVTH
.
Example
The order has the cycle 3 times daily, the period of validity of the cycle is 30 days. The order duration is 10 days. The event generation horizon is defined in the drug master data as 5 days. The system therefore generates 15 events (5 days, three times daily).
The system also takes into account special indicators in the drug master data for the event generation (for example, administer as whole container, issue in whole container, etc.) and can determine the required number of packages/quantities using these.
Also, the system takes into account the Indiscreet Dose
indicator for compounds in the drug master data. This indicator has the following effects on the proposed dose in the event:
If the indicator is not set the system presets the dose of the events depending on the following indicators in the order:
Per Individual Dose
: The system presets the dose of the events with the individual dose defined in the drug master data or in the drug order.
Per Total Order
: The system presets the dose of the first event with the total ordered dose. All further administration events have the dose 0.
If the indicator is set, the system presets the dose of the first event with the total ordered dose. All further administration events have the dose 0.
To receive a new event for a further package, you must create a new event on the Event
tab page in the order dialog.
