Administer or Dispense a Drug
To document the administration or dispensing of a drug, the Administer Drug
function is available.
You can only use this function for events of the administration and dispensing event types, but not for printing prescriptions. It is also available for all events of this event types from the status Confirmed onwards.
Caution
You cannot administer events in the future, i.e. it is not possible to document events in advance.
Note
When administering PRN medication (PRN Medication
indicator is set in the order), you can document the administration of a PRN medication main event for the current day, but also for another day. You can therefore use this to subsequently document the administration for a day in the past (e.g. yesterday).
You should note, however, that you cannot document PRN medication main events which lie in the future.
Note
In the administration dialog the system displays the date of the previous administration for each administration. You can display the complete details of this last administration in a separate dialog using the corresponding pushbutton.
The dialog box for administration consists of the following components:
Event table
This screen area contains a compressed view of the events which displays the most important data concerning the events, such as, for example:
Mnemonic
Patient
Planned quantity
Notes for physician, pharmacist, and nursing staff (via hotspot)
NoteThe system also uses the user parameter N1ME_ORDGRI_OPENROW in the administration dialog. This means that you can also highlight the currently opened line here. See User Parameters for Medication

Depending on the Drug Category of the drug to be administered or dispensed (e.g. infusion), this screen area contains different tab pages and information.

This function is available for one or more events in views of the Medication Orders View Type.
Note
You should note that only events in Administered status contain the attributes for the administration time (actual date and actual time), which can affect the result when selecting by events in a view of the Drug Events/Inpatient Nursing Services
view type.
