You can use the Administer Drug function to document the administration or dispensing of standard drugs, premade or prepared drugs.

Procedure

  1. Select one or more events of one or more patients in a view of the Medication Events/Nursing Services view type in the clinical work station and choose Administer Drug (Administer Drug).

    The system displays the Drug Administration dialog box.

    If you call several events of different patients, the system will display the name of the patient to whom the open event belongs in the title of the dialog box. When you open a different patient's event, the system will change the title of the dialog box accordingly.

    Note Note

    In the case of an event which was generated for PRN medication (PRN Medication indicator in the order) the system checks whether the daily dose of the PRN medication main event has already been administered. If the daily dose has been reached or is already exceeded, the system informs you of this in a dialog box. You can decide whether you still wish to administer a further dose.

    If you want to administer a further dose, enter a reason in the Reason for Dose Difference field.

  2. The system displays the events in the event table.

    Choose Detail (Detail) in the row of the event in the event table to open this event in the documentation screen area for the administration/dispensing.

  3. On the eMAR tab page, enter the required data to document the administration or dispensing.

    The system presets the time of administration depending on the value if system parameter N1ADTM with the system time or the planned time. You should note that in the case of events with a planned administration time in the future, the system always presets the system time regardless of the parameter value.

    Note Note

    In the case of standard drugs, the system checks whether it is possible to split the administered quantity (e.g. the tablet) and, if necessary, rounds up to the nearest unit.

    The following fields are available:

    • Not Administered indicator

      If you cannot administer the drug, for example because the patient is absent, you can set the Not Administered indicator on this tab page. The system will set the administration quantity to zero. In this case you no longer need to document a possible witness or confirm the check conditions.

    • Reason for Dose Difference

      You can determine differences to the planned administration/dispensing, e.g. quantity difference, during administration.

    • Reason for Time Difference

      You can determine differences to the planned administration/dispensing, e.g. time difference (for time-critical drugs), during administration.

    • Scrap

      You can also document the scrap for standard drugs, or premade or prepared compounds. The scrap is the quantity or dose which could not be administered or dispensed to the patient, for example because the patient refused.

      Note Note

      If the scrap is not a result of the patient but, for example the drug was dropped on the floor and could not therefore be administered (for example, because it smashed) you must enter the scrap using the Scrap Booking Care Unit Stockroom function. From the SAP Easy Access menu, choose Start of the navigation path Clinical System Next navigation step Medication Next navigation step Drug Issue Next navigation step Scrap Booking Care Unit Stockroom End of the navigation path (transaction N1MEFLS).

      In addition, you can create a document for the event by choosing Create Document (Create Document).

    • Localization

      You can determine which part of the body the drug is administered to.

    Note that it is possible to substitute the drug using the administration dialog if you have the relevant authorization.

    Note Note

    For mixed drugs, the system displays the ingredients of drug of this event on the Ingredients tab page.

    For infusions and nutritional solutions, the system displays the Planned Duration field for each entry in the flow rate table and the Actual Duration field for the entire event.

  4. Enter the employee responsible and, if necessary, a witness to the administration/dispensing.

  5. Choose Check All (Check All) to check the documentation of the administration/dispensing of the event.

  6. Choose Save (Save) to save events in their current status. The system does not change the status of the events to Administered.

  7. Choose Set Status for All Events (Set Status for All Events) to set the status for all events in the event table. See Change Event Status.

  8. Choose Set Status to Administered (Set Status to Administered) to administer all events in the event table.

    The system sets the internal status of the events to Administered and runs specific checks such as, for example, checking the Pending Witness indicator in the event table.

    Note Note

    You can set this field during the administration/dispensing if, for example, the witness is missing for a special drug administration or dispensing, but this drug should nevertheless be administered together with all other drugs. For this special event, the system sets the customer-specific status Witness Missing, defined in the system parameter N1MESTPW. See System Parameters for Medication.
