Congratulations on choosing SAP NetWeaver MDM. The MDM Java API is one of the powerful suite of MDM tools for next-generation master data management.

The MDM system does more than just database management, asset management, or even database publishing. True, it uses an industry-standard SQL-based DBMS as a "container" for the repository database. But then it goes much further to implement an elegant and seamless combination of many different technologies, concepts, and minute details to create a comprehensive solution to an age-old problem.

Many of the features incorporated into the MDM system are unique, while others are careful refinements of existing ones. Collectively, they have been combined in an unprecedented way to form an entirely new class of application software for master data management.

Just as modern word processing represented a quantum leap over rudimentary text editing, the MDM master data management system represents a quantum leap over database management.

MDM Java API

The MDM Java API is an application programming interface for the MDM software. It allows MDM customers to write customized applications for interacting with the MDM server. The list of functionality available through the MDM Java API includes but is not limited to:

MDM Java Publishing API

Whereas MDM Publishing API provides out-of-the-box access to MDM publishing capabilities, you can also create your own custom publishing applications by using the MDM Java Publishing API.

The MDM Java Publishing API lets your applications interact directly with the Master Data Layout Server, which is the hub for all MDM publication activities.

Functionality provided by the MDM Java Publishing API includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Creating publications
• Managing publication hierarchies
• Changing presentation layouts
• Maintaining publication spreads

Migration from 7.1.0.1 version of Publishing API.

• If you were using the 7.1.0.1 or earlier version of the Publishing Java API, please, make sure, that in your client code you have changed all the calls to a method: GetLivePrintableLayout to a new name - GetLivePrintableContent.
• Also, you can use a new method GetCachedPrintableContent for requesting a snapshot, which was introduced later in ver. 7.1.0.2 in order to request saved objects and avoid regeneration of them.
