Transfer Data from SAP BW to SAP Vora

SAP Data Hub provides capabilities that enable you to transfer data from an SAP BW system to an SAP Vora system.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a system with a connection (connection type: SAP BW HTTP) to an SAP BW system (system type: SAP BW).
  • You have created a system with a connection (connection type: SAP VORA Catalog) to an SAP Vora system (system type: SAP Vora).
  • You have created a project.

Context

To transfer data, you only need to select the source data in the required SAP BW system and the target SAP Vora table in an SAP Vora system to which you wan to transfer the data. Based on the source and the target that you define, the tool creates an SAP BW data set, an SAP Vora data set, and a data transfer task.
  • The SAP BW data set references the selected SAP BW system and the source data (query or an InfoProvider) within the selected system.
  • The SAP Vora data set references the selected SAP Vora system and an SAP Vora table within the selected system.
  • Execute the data transfer task that the tool creates to transfer data from the SAP BW system to the SAP Vora system.

Alternatively, you can also schedule the task execution within a task workflow and monitor the status of the execution in the SAP Data Hub cockpit.

Procedure

  1. Start the SAP Data Hub cockpit in a Web browser.
  2. In the System Status section, choose the Modeling tile.
The cockpit opens the SAP Data Hub Modeling tool in a new tab in the same browser window.
  3. In the navigation pane, right-click the project within which you want the system to create the data transfer task and choose Transfer Data.
The tool opens the Transfer Data wizard. Use this wizard to define the source and the target. You can also use this wizard to execute the data transfer task, which the tool creates based on the source and target definitions.
  4. Select the source.
In the Select Source pane, select the required SAP BW system and a BW query or BW InfoProvider within this system. The BW query or BW InfoProvider is the source data for the data transfer activity.
    1. In the Select Connection dropdown list, select the required connection to an SAP BW system.
    2. In the Select Source Type dropdown list, select the required source.

      Source Type

      Description

      Query

Queries are combination of characteristics and key figures (InfoObjects) that allow you to analyze the data in an InfoProvider. A query corresponds to one InfoProvider, although you can define any number of queries for each InfoProvider.

      InfoProvider

InfoProviders are typically made up of InfoObjects. InfoObjects are the smallest (metadata) units in SAP BW. You can create logical views on the physical data stores in the form of InfoProviders in order to provide data from different data stores for a common evaluation.

Based on the source type, the tool displays all queries or InfoProviders from the selected connection.
    3. Select the required query or an InfoProvider that you want to use as the source data for the data transfer.
  5. Provide values for variables.
If the selected query is defined with variables, then the tool prompts you to provide values to those variables. The tool also displays the default values, if any, defined for the variables.
    1. In the Variable Values dialog box, select the variable, operator type and provide the required values.
    2. If you want to view only the mandatory variables, select Show Mandatory Only.
    3. Choose Apply.
  6. Choose Step 2 to proceed and select the required measures and dimensions.
  7. Select measures and dimensions.
In the Select Measures and Dimensions pane, the tool displays all measures and dimensions in the query or InfoProvider.
    1. Select the required measures and dimensions that you want to project to the SAP Vora table and choose > (Add).
You can rename the selected measures and dimensions.
    2. If you want to filter a dimension and project only the filtered values, select the dimension and choose (Click to filter values).

In the Dimension Filter Value dialog box, select the variable and operator type, and provide the required values. Choose Apply.

You can also sort the order of the selected measures and dimensions when projecting it to the SAP Vora table. In the Selected Measures or Selected Dimensions pane, use Move Up, Move Down, Move to Top, or Move to Bottom icons to sort the selected measures and dimensions.
  8. Choose Step 3 to proceed and select the target SAP Vora table.
  9. Select the target SAP Vora table.
In the Select SAP Vora Table pane, select the required SAP Vora system and browse to the required SAP Vora table within this system. The SAP Vora table is the target destination for the data transfer task.
    1. In the Select Connection dropdown list, select the required connection to an SAP Vora system.
    2. In the Description text field, provide a description.
    3. In the Table field, browse to the required SAP Vora table.
  10. Choose Step 4 to validate, create, and execute the data transfer.
  11. Create and execute the data transfer.
In the Summary pane, based on the source and target, the tool displays the default names of the SAP BW destination, SAP Vora destination, SAP BW data set, SAP Vora data set, and the data transfer task. You can edit the default names of these objects and provide new values.
    1. If you want the tool to create these objects without executing the data transfer task, choose Create.
You can browse these objects in the project explorer. If you want to execute the data transfer task, right-click the task in the project explorer and choose Execute.
    2. If you want the tool to create and also execute the data transfer task, select the Execute checkbox and choose Create.
The tool performs an immediate and one time execution of the data transfer task. After executing the tasks, you can monitor the execution status in the SAP Data Hub cockpit.

Next Steps

After creating and executing the data transfer task, you can still edit the SAP BW data set and SAP Vora data set from the project explorer. But, you can edit them only in the Transfer Data wizard and not in the data set editor.
