Trace Dependent Objects

SAP Data Hub modeler tool provides an editor to graphically visualize all dependencies of a target object.

Prerequisites

You have activated the objects for which you want to trace dependencies.

Context

Tracing dependencies of objects is useful to identify the impact of operations such as deleting an object in the SAP Data Hub modeler tool. For example, before deleting a file operation task in a project, you can trace dependencies to:
  • Identify the destination and data sets from which the file operation task is derived
  • Identify the task workflow, if any, which have dependencies to the file operation task

Procedure

  1. Start the SAP Data Hub cockpit in a Web browser.
  2. In the System Status section, choose the Modeling tile.
The cockpit opens the SAP Data Hub Modeling tool in a new tab in the same browser window.
  3. In the navigation pane, expand the project that contains the object for which you want to trace dependencies.
  4. Right-click the object for which you want to trace dependencies and choose Trace Dependencies.
The tool opens the selected object as a root node in a new editor. Use this editor to graphically trace dependencies of the target object.
  5. Select the target object for more details of the target object.
For example, if the target object is a task, select the task object. The tool displays information on the task name, task type, and description.
  6. Expand the root node to trace dependencies.
You can use the expand icon on either side of the node to trace both, the objects from which the target object is derived and the objects that have dependencies to the target object. This means that, you can trace the entire tree. (systems, connections, destinations, datasets, tasks, task workflows). For example, if a task workflow is your target object, you can trace back dependencies up to the system referenced in the target object.
  7. (Optional) Change the target object.
If you want to change the target object and start tracing dependencies from the new target,
    1. Right-click the required node in the trace dependencies chain and choose Set As Root.
