Enter is a function the user can choose to call a task for entering objects of a previously selected object class. The user can choose this function to enter one or more new data records. Although data can also be changed, the emphasis is on the entering of data for a new object.

If the user wants to update data entered within this action in the database, the function Save or Post (Function) applies. Enter must not be used for updating data in the database.

Single Entry

Single entry is a function the user can choose to enter data of a a single object of a previously selected object class. This function name is to be used instead of Enter if you want to stress that a single object is being entered or if a distinction is made between Single entry and the entry of many objects in a separate task.

Collective Entry

The Collective entry function is used to enter many objects at one go . This function name is to be used instead of Enter if you want to stress that many objects are being entered or if a distinction is made between Collective entry and the entry of a single object in a separate task.

Action Name vs. Screen Name

Single Entry and Collective Entry are action names that apply to an entire task. If the entry is restricted to an individual screen within a task, the function the user uses to call the task is Create (Function) or Enter, depending on what aspect you want to stress. The fact that only this screen is a single entry or collective entry screen is reflected in the screen name specified in the title bar (see Title Bar).

Besides the mentioned characteristics, the functions Single Entry and Collective Entry are identical to the Enter function.

Difference to Create and Edit

Compared to Create (Function), Enter is much more efficient for "entering" new data records, because it is designed for object classes for which data records are entered very often and in large quantities.

Edit, Single Processing, Collective Processing (Functions) focus on the changing of data whereas Enter concentrates on entering new data records.

Other Functions

Other functions for entering new data records are Create (Function), Edit, Single Processing and Collective Processing.

Navigation to the Initial Screen

Like Create (Function), Change (Function), Display (Function) and Other <object> (Function), Enter, Single Entry and Collective Entry navigate to the initial screen of the task.

Deactivation After the Selection

If the user chooses this function, the respective menu option is not active on the corresponding data screens, that is, the menu option is dimmed in the pull-down menu. The user can then restart the chosen function for another object with Other <object> (Function).

Effect as During Exit

If Enter, Single Entry or Collective Entry are chosen within a task, a confirmation prompt is dsplayed if data has not been saved and may be lost. If the data is saved, checks are performed (see Exit or End <application> (Function)).
