Using Metrics
In the Metrics
subview, the system displays data for the object (project charter, portfolio item, or initiative) in groups of metrics. Each table represents a metrics group, each table row a metric, and each column a metrics value type of a metric (see Metric).
Note
You have defined the metrics group financial figures
.
You can assign this group to the metrics sales
, costs
, and market potential
, for example.
You have set up Customizing for Metrics Management
under : object types, metrics groups (optional), metrics,
metrics value types, currencies, and units of measure.
These settings define the number and the structure of the displayed tables.
You have made the following settings for calculating metrics:
You have made the Customizing settings for the key figure monitor in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
You have assigned key figure definitions to the metrics and metrics value types to be calculated in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
You use Customizing settings to influence how metrics data is displayed and edited. Depending on your settings in Customizing for Metrics Management
, you can change or display values, texts, or indicators for metrics on the user interface:

Define Metrics Groups - |
You can group thematically-linked metrics together. In a metrics group you use the data type to specify whether the values of the metrics that use this group are currencies, units of measure, floating-point values, or dates. |
Define Metrics Groups - |
In a metrics group, the settings that you made for metrics units apply to all metrics. The system displays a column for the currency unit and one for the unit of measure either for each metrics group (indicator selected) or for each metrics value type (indicator deselected). |
Define Currencies |
You can only use the currencies defined for each object type for your metrics. |
Define Quantities |
You can only use the units of measure defined for each object type for your metrics. |
Define Metrics – assignment to a metrics group |
When you assign a metrics group to a metric, the properties you defined in this metrics group, such as data type, metrics unit, and |
Define Metrics – changeable metrics text |
The metrics text can be changed (indicator is selected). |
Define Metrics – changeable unit |
The metrics unit can be changed (indicator is selected). |
Define Metrics Value Types |
You define metrics value types for each object type. The metrics value types enable you to break metrics down into more categories, for example, planned, actual, or target. |

Assign Metrics Value Type to Metrics Groups - |
You can control within a metrics group whether a trend field is shown for each metrics value type. The trend can only be displayed for calculated metrics. It is dependent on the last two calculated values of the metric, that is, the trend reflects changes made to the key figures of an initiative or portfolio item by displaying the change to the last two values of a key figure as upwards, downwards, or the same (see Display Status and Trend). |
Define Metrics-Independent Groups |
Metrics-independent groups allow you to group metrics by your own criteria. |
Assign Key Figure to Metrics and Metrics Value Types |
If you do not want to enter metrics manually but want the system to calculate them, you have to assign a key figure definition. The system takes the parameters that are required to calculate the metric from the key figure definition (see Calculation of Metrics). |
You can use metrics for BI reports.
You can export the tables of metrics values on the user interface to a ™Microsoft Excel sheet and print them.
Under Settings
you can adjust the Column Selection
of the tables for your metrics values. The columns are available that you configured in Customizing for Metrics Management
. You can add columns
to this selection or delete them.
Under Display
you can change the table layout: number of rows, columns, the table design (Standard
, Alternating
, Transparent
)
and grid lines (All
, None
, Vertically
, Horizontally
).
Under Print Version
, you can format the layout of a printout of your tables using various print parameters.
To enter values for metrics manually or to have them calculated, select an object in the relevant application Project Management
or Portfolio Management
.
In Project Management, open a project. On the Project Charter
view, choose the Metrics
subview.
For more information about the prerequisites for using metrics in Project Management, see Creating a Project Charter for a Project Definition.
In Portfolio Management, open an object. On the object´s detail screen, go to the Deliverables
view and choose the Metrics
subview.
See Example: Metric.
