Interactive Configuration on the Configuration Screen
The configuration screen is the starting point for interactive configuration. In the WebClient UI, you go to the configuration screen by entering a configurable product in the sales order, selecting the row, and choosing the action Configure Product
under More
.
You see the following areas on the configuration screen:
Header area
This area contains the product image, if one is included, the total price, and the status of the configuration.
Additional Information
area
This screen area is collapsed by default. If product variants are identified during interactive configuration, they are displayed in a list, and you can compare the current configuration with the product variants.
Product area
The product area has the name of the header product. Under this, all subproducts (only with multilevel configuration), groups of characteristics, and characteristics are listed with their possible characteristic values.
Product |
Product, such as a tractor-trailer |
Subproduct |
Components with their own master data, for example tractor, semi-trailer |
Group |
Group of characteristics, such as color combinations |
Characteristic |
Property of the product, such as exterior paint, interior trim and upholstery |
Characteristic value |

In Extended Configuration Management (XCM), you can influence the display of characteristics and characteristic values in many ways. You can, for example, define that characteristics and characteristic values should be displayed with the ID, the short text, the long text, or a combination of these parameters. This function is controlled using the XCM parameters characteristics.descriptiontype
and values.descriptiontype
.
In XCM, for most of the functions specified below, you can also control whether the functions should be available or not, and how they should be executed.
Depending on the context, scenario, and settings for the user interface in XCM, you can do the following from the configuration screen:
Select the required characteristic values, and thereby adjust the product to your individual wishes (see also Fast Configuration Entry)
Display details about the characteristic values, for example long texts, and, if available, images and other additional information (see Displaying Images and Additional Information)
Manually check your current configuration for consistency
Exit the configuration without saving
Save and exit the configuration to buy the product or possibly resume configuration at a later time based on the selected characteristic values
Reset the current configuration and revert to the original configuration
Change the UI settings for the current session (see Temporary UI Settings)
Check how the selected characteristic values affect the price (see Displaying Prices)
Check the current configuration and the prices, in the preview
Compare configurations with each other, or with product variants (see Comparing Product Configurations and Comparison with Product Variants)
Edit configuration conflicts that occur (see Conflict Handling)
Export or import configurations (see Import or Export of Product Configuration)
