Definition

Publications are defined as data containers in which data is grouped together logically. Replication objects can be assigned to a publication.

Use

You define publications in order to make them available to subscriptions. You can use these to subscribe to sites (data sets) for the predefined publications and you can state concrete values for the criteria fields.

To display publications that have already been defined, choose the object type Publication in the Object Type list box. If required, make an entry in the Object Name field and choose the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text icon.

Publications are automatically activated when they are created and deleted (the Active Object checkbox in the Dependent information area is selected).

If an error has occurred during generation, a publication is not activated. You cannot subscribe to publications that have not been activated. You can activate such publications using the call-up function (after troubleshooting the error). This activation generates or deletes function modules and a corresponding transport request is created, which has to be released explicitly in order to transfer the data into the target system (typically a production system).

By choosing the corresponding function, you can now create additional publications or display/change or delete existing publications. You can only change publications of the type Unfiltered (bulk) and Simple unfiltered.

Note

You cannot maintain publications in a production system, but only in a development or test system. In the case of publications maintained there, corresponding function modules are generated and a transport request is created which has to be released explicitly so that the publications are also updated accordingly in the production system (target system).
