Service Scale - Entry Functions

The following section describes how to enter items on the Service Scale.

Item Registration

There are various methods of registering items. Some of the methods include item entry via direct buttons (i.e. preconfigured "shortcut" buttons"), via item search or via item number entry.

The weight of the item must be determined as well. It is not possible to register a weight item with no load on the scale.

To register an item, proceed as follows:

  1. Enter the desired item using the item number, direct button or item search.
    Note:
For a detailed description of the item registration function, refer to the "POS Client - User Guide".
  2. Press your operator button to confirm the registration (this step is not required if Fast Selling is enabled).
  3. Place the item on the scale plate.

The item is displayed in the receipt preview.

After the load cell provides a steady reading, the item information and the item weight are shown on the panel display.

Alternatively, you can place the item on the scale first and then perform item registration.

Note:
If the item weight could not be determined, you are requested to load the weight again.

Tare

Tare refers to the weight of the packaging, i.e. the difference between the total weight and the net weight of the item. Tare is applied to items that cannot be weighed on their own.

Tare Option Description
Predefined Tare The Service Scale supports various methods of defining a tare value:
Item Tare For items that are normally sold in the same container, a defined item tare is often stored in the item master data. When you enter such an item, the tare is automatically set to the value stored in the item master data.
Default Tare If the same container type is always used, it is possible to configure a default tare. This default tare is defined by the application administrator. When the scale is started, the defined value is read and the tare is set to this value.

It might be the case that the predefined value is no longer valid or that you have to use another container instead of the one that has been provided. In such cases, you can always use the functions described below to correct the predefined tare value.

Tare Entry

The Service Scale provides a range of functions for tare weight entry:

  • Tare Determination by Weighing
  • Manual Tare Entry
  • Tare Entry via Direct Buttons
  • Repeated Tare

The tare value behavior may vary when the scale is unloaded:

  • If tare is fixed, the tare value is retained after unloading the scale.
  • If tare is not fixed, the tare value is reset after unloading the scale:
    • If a default tare was defined, tare is reset to the default value.
    • Otherwise, tare is set to 0.

Tare Determination by Weighing

To weigh the container, proceed as follows:

  1. Place the empty container on the scale.
  2. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  3. Press Tare Weighted.

Tare is set to the weight of the container.

  4. Remove the container from the scale and fill it.
  5. Register the item as described in the section Item Registration.

Manual Tare Entry

If you know the weight of the container, you can enter this weight manually.

To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  2. Press Tare Manually.
  3. On the next screen, enter the tare value and confirm your entry by pressing OK.

Tare is set to the entered value.

  4. Place the item in the container on the scale.
  5. Register the item as described in the section Item Registration.

Tare Entry via Direct Buttons

Use this function to enter a tare manually via a direct button. Direct buttons have a pre-assigned fixed tare value.

To enter tare via a direct button, proceed as follows:

  1. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  2. Press a tare direct button (e.g. 20 g).

Tare is set to the predefined value.

  3. Place the item in the container on the scale.
  4. Register the item as described in the section Item Registration.
Note:
The type and number of direct buttons are configured by an application administrator.

Repeated Tare

Repeated tare is used when you want to enter several items in the same container.

When performing repeated tare, you do not remove the container from the scale but set the tare weight to the weight of the filled container. Enter the next item subsequently.

To use repeated tare, proceed as follows:

  1. Place the empty container on the scale.
  2. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  3. Press Tare Weighted.

Tare is set to the weight of the container.

  4. Fill the empty container.
  5. Register the item as described in the section Item Registration.
  6. Place the filled container on the scale.
  7. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  8. Press Tare Weighted.

Tare is set to the weight of the filled container (weight of the container plus weight of the item).

  9. Fill the container with the next item.
  10. Register the item as described in the section Item Registration.

The steps 6 to 10 can be repeated as often as needed.

Tare Fixation

If you are weighing several items and do not want to enter the tare weight for each individual item, you can fix the tare. In this case, the same tare value is retained throughout the weighing processes.

Fixing the tare value is helpful when you are using containers of the same weight in several weighing processes.

To fix the tare value, proceed as follows:

  1. Press Tare on the entry screen.

    The Tare Screen opens.

  2. Press Tare Fixation.

The tare value is retained until the button Tare Fixation is pressed again.

Note:
A fixed tare value can always be changed. To do this, use one of the functions described in the section Tare Entry.

Receipt Floating

You can start a receipt on a Service Scale and proceed or complete it on another scale. This is referred to as receipt floating.

Note:
To use receipt floating, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
  • The scale on which you want to activate your operator must belong to the same cash register group as the scale on which you started the selling process.
  • Both scales must be online. If the scale from which you switched is offline, the other scale shows a confirmation dialog and you can decide to continue anyway. But in this case, it cannot be ensured that all line items are correctly synchronized between the two scales.
  • Both scales must be set to the same time, exact to the second.

To resume a receipt on another scale, proceed as follows:

Open the Operator Screen on the scale on which you want to continue. Press an operator button to activate your operator.

The entry screen opens including all information on the receipt.

You can now enter more items or complete the receipt.

Second Bag

Use this function to print a second receipt to support more than one bag. This receipt is used to seal the second bag. It shows the cashier that there is another bag with the real scale receipt.

Change Department

When the scale starts, it uses the department which is set in the Service Scale configuration.

You can change the department either by selecting a new department from a list or by pressing a direct button, depending on your configuration.

You can also reset the department to the preconfigured department.

Fast Selling

If Fast Selling is activated, you do not have to confirm each item registration with your operator button.

Receipt Printing

After completing the item registration, press Total on the entry screen.

The Service Scale prints a receipt for the registered items.
