Editing Material and Substance Items This procedure describes how you edit material and substance items in the
Input and Output
view. In this view you define the input and output materials as well as the input and output substances of the process (see
Input and Output
).
If the following views are ready for input, you can also edit material and substance items there:
In the
Composition
formula view, you edit the ingredients of output substances (see
Composition
).
In the
Ingredients
formula view, you edit the
ingredients
of the formula.
In the
Nutrients
formula view, you edit the
nutrients
of the formula (see
Nutrient Views
).
You specify whether one of these views is ready for input in Customizing for
Recipe Management
in the IMG activity
Specify Formula View Parameters
.

If you have entered materials or substances in the
Input and Output
view or if you have edited the BOM of an output material, you can generate data from the existing data. For more information, see
Generation of Material and Substance Data

Load the formula you want to edit and select it in the hit list or navigation area by double-clicking it.
Choose the
Input and Output
tab page.
Enter the item data and save your entries.
You determine the item type as follows:
You define a standard item by assigning a new item number.
You define an
alternative item
by assigning the same item number to it as for the relevant standard item. The system sets the
(Alternative Items Exist)
indicator and the component type for the standard item.
You can only create group items while generating material items.
The system supports you when entering data, as follows:
You can copy substances and materials from the navigation area to the items using drag and drop .
If you enter a material or substance in an item or assign it using drag and drop, the system automatically amends the item number as follows:
If the new item is at the end of the existing items, the system assigns it the next possible number that is divisible by ten and is at least ten more than the number of the last item. If the new item is, for example, after item 25, it is assigned the number 40.
If the new item is between two existing items with different numbers, the system assigns it a number between the numbers of the existing items, for example, the number 25 if the new item is between the items 20 and 30.
If the new item is between two existing items with the same numbers, the system assigns the same number to it as the number for the existing items. This means that the new item contains another alternative to the existing alternative items.
You can move items within the inputs and outputs using drag and drop. If you confirm or save your entries afterwards, the system automatically adjusts the item numbers to the new sequence.
When you enter a material, the system automatically adds the substance that is assigned to the material in the
Environment, Health and Safety
(EH&S) component. It also adds the material in the same way when you enter a substance or assign it using drag and drop.

Specify Events
, you can specify that you can only enter those materials in formulas, to which a substance has been assigned, or you can only enter substances to which a material has been assigned. Furthermore, independently of this setting, you can only enter a material and substance in an item at the same time if they are assigned to each other in the EH&S component.
If you want to enter in an item a material or substance that does not exist, you can create the material or substance straight from the view. To do this, choose the
Create Material
or
Create Substance
function in the context menu of the
empty
Material
or
Substance
field. After you have created it, the system automatically assigns the material or substance to the item.
The following additional functions are available in the
Input and Output
view:

The system uses this function to renumber the items, that is, it assigns numbers to the items in successive intervals of ten according to the order of the items in the table. Therefore, you use this function to renumber the items after you have inserted or moved an item. |

You use this function to make the alternative item you selected the standard item. The standard item becomes the alternative item. |

You use this function to change the group item, that is, you make the group item that is selected into the leading material item. The selected item is assigned the item number of the old leading item. The old leading item becomes the group item. |

This function displays all formulas in which the input material or input substance is an output. |

This function displays all formulas in which the output material or output substance is an input. |

In general, group items are not ready for input. They contain the value from the standard item that belongs to it the same as for the fields of alternative items that are locked for input due to their system settings (see “Prerequisites“).
The system checks the items entered . If you did not set the Reaction and Evaporation/Absorption indicators in the formula, the system calculates the quantity of the primary output from the inputs that were entered.
