Data Acquisition, Live Data Connections, and Integration

Stories

  • When you have a chart with threshold values, you can now include the threshold legend in the chart.

  • You can now add an image or a color gradient to the background of your responsive pages and lanes.

Planning

  • When exporting data to S/4HANA, using OData Services, previously, if the target S/4HANA key-figure amount was a currency, you could map it to a currency and export the number of different currencies involved. Now, in addition to that, if the target S/4HANA key figure is a quantity, you can also map it to a unit dimension and export the quantities of the different units.

  • You can cut and paste cell values by pressing Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V, or Cmd+X and Cmd+V. The cells that you cut become unbooked when you paste them.

Smart Assist

  • To help you make better business decisions, Smart Insights now brings you top contributors for all generic dimensions, even those with a very large number of dimension members. For variances, Smart Insights now supports up to 30 dimension members.

  • You can now get Smart Insights on a data point that was calculated using the average aggregation type.

Analytics Designer

  • You can now add a new text-area widget to an analytic application. The widget is similar to the input field widget, but different in that it can wrap text automatically based on the size of the widget and the line break entered by application users. This is especially useful when you post or get a long text from comments and descriptions.

  • As a user of the Analytics Designer API Reference, you can now use and consume the following improvements that highly broaden the ease of use of the API reference:

    • The wave version of the API reference is displayed in the browser tab and in the first link of the "Contents" section, for example "API Reference Version 2019.23".

    • The link "API Reference Latest Published Version" in the "Contents" section navigates to the latest publicly available version of the API reference.

    • Class, field, method, and event API additions are listed in their documentation with the wave version of their addition under the heading "Since". Class, field, method, and event API updates are listed in their documentation with the wave version of their update under the heading "Last Update".

    • Direct subclasses of a class are listed in the class documentation under the heading "Direct Subclasses". For an example, see the documentation of class "Widget".

    • Each class in the "Contents" section has decorator icons indicating special capabilities of the class:

      • An icon with the letter "D" indicates whether the class contains fields or methods that can be directly accessed in the script editor without creating an instance of the class (sometimes called "static" fields and methods in other programming languages).

      • An icon with the letter "T" indicates whether the class can be used as a type in method arguments, return values, or global script variables.

    • The API reference shows the type library information of each class. All classes are grouped into type libraries. This is useful information for developers who create widgets with the Custom Widget SDK.

      • Each class displays the type library name of the class in its heading.

      • The type library name is a link that navigates to an overview page, listing type libraries and their classes.

      • The class list in the "Contents" section can be grouped by type library.

Smart Predict

  • Smart Predict has reduced the differences experienced when creating a predictive model on either a live or acquired dataset. This alignment, for now, requires that all predictive models created before release 2019.23 using acquired datasets, must be retrained to view their debriefs. This also applies before they can be applied to new datasets.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.23 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

Administration & Infrastructure

  • Choose to send an email when sharing files with users

With this update, you'll have the ability to choose whether or not to send an email when sharing a File, Folder, or Story with a user. This way, you can keep your colleagues up to date with what's being shared, or you can save yourself the inevitable pain from them ignoring your email and just not bother. Either way, the power is in your hands! Changing users' access rights to the shared file will not trigger new email notifications.

  • Assign copy privileges for files and folders

Administrators can now assign copy privileges for files and folders in order to prevent users from cloning information and creating unauthorized derivative work. Disabling the copy rights will remove the "Save As" button, as well as the copy feature for files and folders.

  • Security Improvements

In the "My Content" page under "Content Network", you can now use Security Settings to determine whether to list or block content shared by specified tenants. When blocking, only the specifically listen tenants will be shown, whereas when allowed, all tenants except for those listed will be shown.

  • Export and import translated content along with the story

When importing and exporting a story from one tenant to another, the translated content will be transferred along with the story. This will make it much faster and easier to work with different teams from around the world, no matter what languages you speak!

Analytics Designer

  • Timer

Application designers can now define a timer to delay the trigger of a script call. This technical component has several related scripting APIs including start(delayInSeconds), stop(), isRunning(), and onTimeout(). This should help by making things a lot easier and more automated!

  • Bookmarks for Analytics Designer

You'll now be able to capture and save the current state of your Applications using bookmarks. These are going to be available as a technical component in design time and the designer can configure what should be captured in the bookmark. These bookmarks can also be shared, edited, or deleted via the file repository and within the application using the scripting APIs.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud custom widget SDK

You can now create your own custom widgets with the SAP Analytics Cloud Custom Widget SDK, which will allow you to extend the predefined set of widgets provided by the Analytics Designer!

  • Tab strip widget

This is a new widget addition for multiple tabs in your Analytical Application. This can be used to move, show, or hide grouped widgets as one, letting you keep tabs on how your users will interact with the application.

  • Lazy loading for invisible chart widgets

Invisible charts will no longer be initialized at application runtime, instead being initialized once the chart is changed to visible. This will allow for faster loading times and better memory usage across the Analytical Application, and the scripting and APIs will still work even if the chart is not rendered.

  • Smart Insights for table widgets

When creating an analytical application, you can choose to enable Smart Insights when right clicking on a table cell. To do this, simply check the "Enable Explorer Mode" box at design time.

  • Add comments for widgets or cells that are planning enabled

With widgets and cells that are planning enabled, you can now enable or disable a user's ability to leave comments. Several new API calls have been added as well, including the ability to getAllComments() or just one comment, and to removeAllComments() or just one comment. This will open many more collaborative opportunities within Analytics Designer!

  • Force line breaks in text widget

When using the applyText() scripting API, you'll now be able to force line breaks using the "\n" character combination.

  • Adjust widget size and position within the Canvas page

Application designers can now set the layout of widgets as dynamic, ensuring that they adapt to different screen sizes and orientations. The position settings for widgets can include pixel-exact values, percentage values, or auto value, allowing you to customize how they are laid out. Several scripting APIs have been added as well.

  • Iterate over result sets based on input data

The result set APIs allow designers to iterate over a table or chart dataset and retrieve a result set based on the data selection of a table or chart. If the data selection parameter is empty, it will retrieve all the values of the initial data set, alternatively, if specified, it will retrieve the designated subset of the initial dataset.

  • Export application to PDF

Applications can now be exported to PDF. Note: Only visible parts will be exported; R widgets are disabled during export; custom widgets are not supported. In order to enable PDF export, it needs to be defined as a technical component in the application. The corresponding APIs are provided.

  • Align Widgets

To improve your work efficiency and design accuracy, you can now align the position of multiple widgets (such as charts, tables, images, text, etc.) when designing an analytic application.

  • Data Analyzer enhancements

A host of new enhancements have arrived for Data Analyzer, extending its capabilities with a more powerful context menu, a better builder panel with navigation support, currency conversion, export to Excel and information on when the data was last updated.

Data Integration

  • Export to SAP IBP

You can now export data to SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) directly via an IBP connection, as well as schedule export jobs regularly based on your business needs. This is part of our continued goal to realize our Collaborative Enterprise Planning vision.

  • Aggregation support in stories for Live Universe connections

Aggregations are now supported with Live Data Connections to Universes. These include:

    • Count

    • Count excluding Null

    • Count excluding 0 and Null

    • Min

    • Max

    • Average

  • Simplified authentication method for Live S/4HANA connections

For S/4HANA systems upgraded to Cloud 1908 (7.77) or OnPrem 1909 (7.54) and above, users can select "SAML Single Sign On" to create a live direct connection without having to manually add custom web content into their S/4HANA system during configuration.

  • Share file server connections

When using the File Server, larger files will now load in the background while you work on other tasks with smaller files loading instantly. You will also be able to share connections with colleagues!

  • Export data to files hourly

Repeating scheduled settings for exporting to a file will now show an hourly option. If the export takes longer than an hour, SAP Analytics Cloud will wait until the next hour after the export has completed.

  • BPC live connection enhancements

In a story created using a BPC Live Connection, the planning status of the back-end BPC query will now be synced with the status of the planning-enabled option of the table in the story. The story designer can switch on or off the planning-enabled option in the builder panel.

  • Import Secured File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) data sources using open connectors

You can now leverage the integration of SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) Open Connector to expose SFTP as a new import data source for users. Excel and CSV file formats are supported with up to 800K rows by 100 columns.

  • Characteristics as a Key figure support with BPC Live connection

Characteristics as a Key figure can now be supported in BPC Live connections, allowing users to add short comments for data being sent through this connection.

Data Visualization

  • Recommended comparisons

SAP Analytics Cloud will offer you recommended comparisons right in the builder panel as you create your charts. The recommendations are based on version or time and will adjust based on the chart context. In many cases, there is a lot of value to be gained from comparing versions or time periods; however, not everyone knows how to create a valuable comparison.

  • Linked Analysis for drill levels

Who doesn't love Linked Analysis? With this update, you'll be able to change the hierarchy of multiple charts through Linked Analysis, as long as the charts are on the same hierarchy and level as the driver chart. Filter away!

  • Dynamic time filter improvements for widgets

The new dynamic time filter UI is now directly available in your builder panel. Moreover, dynamic time offset within widget filters is also available. These offsets are the first steps towards dynamic time travel, which will be coming out in Q2 of 2020.

  • Recommended comparisons based on dynamic time

When the current period is selected in charts, users will have the ability to create Recommended Comparisons based on dynamic time filters. The option to create Comparisons based on version and time will still be available, giving you more flexibility to quickly analyze your data exactly the way you want!

  • Prevent viewers from removing story & widget filters

Story designers can prevent viewers from removing story filters. The default will be set as viewers not being able to delete story filters, however they will be able to reset to the original filter value.

  • Change axis line for Radar charts

Axis lines in radar charts can now be modified by designers. The Axis line color can be changed to customize the contrast between the chart, background and data points. This will be available in the Styling panel, under the Axis drop down tab.

  • Multi-dimensional sorting on charts

With this update, you'll have the ability to sort charts by two or more dimensions either alphabetically or in a custom configuration with semantic meaning. These sorts can be set be both the designer and the viewer, making it easier to organize your information.

  • Prevent viewers from removing chart & geo filters

Story designers can now prevent viewers from deleting chart and geo filters with a new option available in the filter dialogue. Moreover, viewers may now reset the filter selection back to default if they wish.

  • Unrestricted drilling

We've released a performance enhancement where the dynamic time range applies to widget filters. It will now stay on the desired granularity even if the entire time range does not have data. So, if you have a dynamic time range for all of 2019, but data only exists until September, you'll still be able to drill down into your existing data.

  • Show or hide granular chart detail options

Story designers can now choose specific elements of chart details to be displayed in their charts. Story designers can still select to show all chart details with the Show/Hide menu by selecting "All", but designers can customize what information to display (for example only to show filter information but not model details)! Designers can also select multiple charts to show or hide chart details as a group much faster than before.

  • Increase dimension data label spacing for charts with only negative values

For charts with negative values exclusively, moving the right axis will expand the space next to your data labels making them easier to read. This will bring parity with positive and negative values, making the user experience more consistent across the board.

  • Save & Leave the Story

Story designers will now be able to quickly save and leave the story with one click when attempting to exit with unsaved changes. A dialogue box will appear that maintains the "Leave" and "Cancel" options but adds the "Save & Leave" option as well. This will help prevent accidentally losing your hard work!

  • Restore widget or confirm deletion

Story designers will now have the ability to restore an accidentally deleted widget. The widget can be restored from a toast that will appear on the bottom of your screen.

  • More readable charts when no data is available

Administrators now have the option to choose from a preset group of specific messages within System Administration, to be displayed whenever no data is returned within a chart. The default messages will remain, unless an administrator makes a change. Moreover, story designers can now style these error messages from the styling panel to give it the look you want!

  • Display United Kingdom as a drillable hierarchy for geo maps

the United Kingdom hast been added as a shape to the Choropleth layer combining the previous shapes of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Users can still drill down into regions to show the four nations.

  • Reduce data label collisions for charts containing lines

Line-based charts will display more data labels by prioritizing them based on their placement in the builder panel. You can easily see which number corresponds to which line by looking at the legend. If the topic is on the left-most side of the legend, then the matching number is the leftmost one for each data point. This will make line charts more readable and useful for quick analysis!

Digital Boardroom

  • Reset & refresh topics from the action bar

Boardroom designers will have the option to enable the refresh and reset of topics through the action bar for Boardroom Presentations. This will allow you to quickly update your data and make sure the visualizations are as relevant as possible, as well as reset any filters you've created, right from the touch of a button!

Intelligent Enterprise

  • Display SAP BW live GrandTotal() and %GrandTotal()

For SAP BW live connections, you can now display the values for Grand Total and percentage Grand Total in tables and charts by using the provided functions.

  • Improved performance in stories with SAP BW smart queries

Performance improvements are coming to stories that contain multiple charts by using SAP BW smart queries. The queries will now be combined as long as they share the same dimensions, along with a few other factors. For more information, see Merging SAP BW Queries (Specifics for SAP BW).

Mobile

  • Push default supported configurations with Microsoft Intune

When you deploy the SAP Analytics Cloud App through Microsoft Intune, you can now push default supported configurations. This makes it much faster to see your data when you're away from the office.

Modeling

  • Enable translations of model and public dimension metadata

You can now enable translations of model and public dimension metadata, in addition to stories. The user has the option to mark a model or a dimension as ready for translation and all the relevant texts in the metadata will then be translated by a common translation service.

  • Option to delete dimension members

With this update, you'll now be able to quickly and easily delete all members of an existing dimension in a model.

Planning

  • Table formatting enhancements

The new default template for tables will now have a white background with distinctive formatting for the header cells, particularly when you have differing versions in your table. This will make it much easier to compare actuals with budgeted and forecasted values.

  • Right click for tables

The context menu options for tables are now extended by right clicking on a cell. These options include: copy, undo or redo data entry, and open history panel, among others. This should make your workflow feel more familiar and intuitive, making sure you can stay focused on the important tasks!

  • Story integration

When you're working on a story that's part of a calendar task, you no longer need to switch back and forth between the Calendar and the story. A new status bar has been added to the top of the task-connected story that shows calendar information when hovered over, along with a submit, reject, and more details button.

  • Add new members and set read and write permissions simultaneously

When adding new members to a table, you can now set the read and write permissions right from the editing pane. This will give the planner the ability to share the new member with specific users.

  • Option to publish private comments

With this update, when you publish a private version and make it public, you'll have the option to publish the cell comments associated with that private version as well. These comments will be available when the same version is used again.

  • Color formatting enhancements

You can now change the color of the expand/collapse icon in tables.

  • Set minimum node in Value Driver Tree (VDT)

When you're using longer node titles in a Value Driver Tree, you can set a minimum node width to ensure that they stay readable. This additional UI control will be accessible both in the VDT designer and the VDT widget.

  • New functions in advanced formulas

This update brings a bunch of new functions for advanced formulas:

    • Day, month, and year functions

This function enables the ability to pick up the day/month/year information from a time period using the Day(), Month(), and Year() functions, as well as the ability to calculate the number of days in time period using the DAYSINMONTH() or DAYSINYEAR() functions. These new time functions can be very helpful in breaking down salaries or amortizing costs over certain periods of time.

    • DATERATIO() function

This function helps you indicate the ratio of the start date to end date for a specific action.

    • CARRYFORWARD() function

This function carries forward account balances to the opening amount of the new periods, then it recalculates the account balances of the new periods based on the new opening amount. This improves on the current use case of FOREACH, bringing the response time up by 97%.

    • CONFIG.HIERARCHY() function

This function can be used to specify the hierarchy of one or more dimensions you will be working on throughout the entire script.

  • On hold status for tasks and processes

If the work on a task or process gets blocked, you'll now be able to change the status to "On Hold", which will then allow you to resume or discontinue the process. This allows for more accurate descriptions in the calendar, making it easier for planners to see how far along a project is, and whether any specific task might need more support.

Smart Assist

  • Smart Insights enhancements

This update brings a new UI to the panel which can display up to two types of insights simultaneously along with a brand-new "How has it changed?" insight, showing how the data point varies over time. We've also introduced new navigation with an expand or collapse option as well as a back button at the bottom of the panel.

  • Smart Insights on calculation data points

Now you'll be able to use Smart Insights on data points created with calculations to see information about the calculations.

Smart Predict

  • Live Connection to SAP HANA

Smart Predict, just got smarter. You can now use live SAP HANA data to create predictive models with Smart Predict. You'll get reports and KPIs with predictive insights that will enhance stories in SAP Analytics Cloud. Using live SAP HANA data means you can access your on-premise data in real time without having to deal with data updates or uploads. As data stays on-premise, there is no storage in the cloud, so your data security is never an issue.

  • Smart Insights now detects significant changes in your data over time, and presents the information as a textual insight, and a chart. To help you better understand your data, the Smart Insights panel now displays up to two types of Smart Insights simultaneously. You can see how your selected data point has changed over time, and what its top contributors are, or how it was calculated. Smart Insights also offers you the flexibility to go back, step by step, to the original insights provided, if you choose to drill down further into the top contributors to your data point.

  • The spatial data for SAP Analytics Cloud now contains the United Kingdom at the "Country" level, with England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland at the Region level.

Planning

  • For advanced formulas, the following new functions and options are now available:
    • Business function CarryForward() first carries forward account balances to the opening amount of the new periods, then recalculate the account balances of the new periods based on the new opening amount.

    • Time functions:
      • DAY(), MONTH() and YEAR() respectively return the day, calendar month, calendar year in a date. The day, month, and year returned will be in number format such as 31, 12, or 2019.

      • PERIOD() converts a date to a time period based on the time granularity.

      • DAYSINMONTH() and DAYSINYEAR() respectively returns the number of days in a specific calendar month or year. The month or year can be taken from an exact fixed date, time dimension, or dimension attribute defined in these time functions.

      • DATERATIO() calculates how many days between the start and end date overlaps a given period. Then divides the overlapping days by the total number of days in the period.

    • Use the CONFIG.HIERARCHY() function to specify the hierarchy of one or more dimensions you will be working on throughout the entire script.

    • For the visual tool:
      • Use the option "Repeat for booked members only" to repeat statements only for booked members when creating advanced formulas. Booked members refer to the dimension combination in the repeat scope that has values. This can save unnecessary looping and therefore enhance the performance.

      • In addition to the overwrite mode, you can choose to append data in the target scope.

  • When If you're using longer node titles for a value driver tree, you can set a Minimum Node Width to make sure that they're readable.

Analytics Designer

  • As an application designer, you can now adjust widget size and position dynamically when the canvas size changes. This will enable you to automatically fit the widgets to the modified canvas size.

  • As an application designer, you can now iterate over the result set based on an input data selection.

  • As an application designer, you can allow users to export an application as a PDF. Only content visible on your application page can be exported.

  • To improve your work efficiency and design accuracy, you can align the position of multiple widgets (such as charts, tables, images, text, images, etc.) when designing an analytic application.

  • In this release, we are pleased to announce the general availability of the SAP Analytics Cloud Custom Widget SDK. The SDK lets you extend the predefined set of widgets provided by the Analytics Designer for your custom widgets. For more information see: https://help.sap.com/viewer/0ac8c6754ff84605a4372468d002f2bf/2019.20/en-US.

  • New functionality in the Data Analyzer includes:
    • You can now enable universal display hierarchies by using the "Compact Display" context menu for rows or columns.

    • In the "Available Items" panel, we can now display hierarchies in measure structures.

    • In the Builder panel, you can now reorder measures of non-hierarchical measure structures.

    • You can now use a table context menu to add calculations.

  • In Start of the navigation pathSecurity Next navigation step RolesEnd of the navigation path, the previous privilege named Application Bookmark has been renamed to Global Application Bookmark. The privilege still controls the security settings of both global and private bookmarks. In the next wave, we will separate private analytic application bookmark settings from global bookmark settings.

Content Network

  • You can now share private content to systems in different landscapes.

  • As an administrator, you can now transfer multilingual content (within your story) between systems in your landscape.

Version 2019.19

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

General

  • When sharing Files, Folders, or Stories, you can now choose whether to send an email to new users.

Data Acquisition, Live data Connections, and Integration

  • You can now use SAP BW smart queries to improve performance in stories that contain several charts. In such cases, query requests are now combined. The combinations allowed depend on several factors, one of them being that the queries share the same dimensions.

  • Now if you enable the setting "Use Characteristic as Key Figure" in a BPC live connection model for a specific characteristic, SAP Analytics Cloud treats this dimension as a measure, which can be used normally like other measures, for example:

    • In a planning table, you can freely edit the measure that was transformed from a dimension.

    • The value of the measure can be disaggregated.

    • You can copy and paste values of the measure or do mass-data entry.

    • In Digital Boardroom, you can edit the measure like others.

  • You can now import data from SFTP data sources using Open Connectors.

Stories

  • You can now specify which details listed under the Show/Hide action menu should be displayed in your chart.

  • When creating a date range filter for a chart or table, you can now choose the Unrestricted Drilling option to allow drilling to any level in the hierarchy, no matter what the filter or date granularity is set to.

  • When you have two (or more) charts with the same hierarchy level and a linked analysis is set up, changing the drill level in one chart will change the drill level in all of the linked charts.

Planning

  • For tables, when you publish a private version and make it public, you can now choose to publish the private comments as well.

  • For tables, you can now use context (right-click) menus to perform many actions that previously you could only do from the Builder or Version Management panels. For example, you can change how data is displayed in the table (Description or ID) or you can copy a version to create a private version.

  • The default template for Tables now has a white background and distinctive formatting for heading cells, particularly when you have different versions in your table.

  • You now have the ability to change the color of the expand/collapse (drill) icon in your tables: apply a dark background to your table cells and a light color to the drill icon. All the options are listed here: Styling Options for Tables on a Canvas Page.

Analytics Designer

  • As an application designer, you can now define a timer to delay the trigger of script calls.

Content Network

  • In the My Content page, you can now use security settings to determine which systems can share content with you.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.19 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

    • If you require data acquisition from SAP ERP / SQL Database, the minimum version is 1.0.99.

Version 2019.18

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

Analytics Designer

  • With this version, we've changed the calculation handling for account dimensions in script APIs. Before this change, member IDs looked like this "[Account_BestRunJ_sold].[parentId].&C4A#CALC0". After the change, the member identifiers are GUIDs and look like this "25880968-9230-4045-b252-417449111942". All script methods accepting or returning member IDs will use the new member IDs (GUID format). If you have used a hard-coded member ID in a script API such as setDimensionFilter or getData on the data source in your application, you need to change it to the new format.

  • When running an analytic application, you can now add comments either to a widget or a cell of a table for which planning is enabled. Widgets that you can add comments to include chart, table, geo map, image, shape, text, RSS reader, web page, R visualization, and clock. In the view mode, you can directly show or hide all comments in the toolbar; while in a embed mode, you can leverage corresponding APIs to show or hide comments.

  • As an application designer, you can use \n as a control character to force line breaks when using the applyText() API of a text widget.

Mobile

  • When deploying the SAP Analytics Cloud app through Microsoft Intune, you can now push default supported configurations.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.18 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

Stories

  • You can now get Smart Insights on data points that are based on calculations.

  • When creating a Time-based chart, you will now see suggestions for adding a time-based variance to the chart.

  • When you add a chart to your story, you will now see some recommendations for variances that you can use to build a more meaningful chart.

  • You can now sort your chart data using more than one dimension.

  • You can now control whether or not anyone viewing the story can delete geo or chart filters.

  • When viewing a time-based chart, you will see suggestions for variances that you can add to that chart.

Planning

  • In a story created with a BPC Live Connection, the entry lock status of the back-end BPC system is now synced with the status of the planning-enabled option of the table in the story.

Modeling

  • You can now enable translations of model and public dimension metadata, in addition to stories.

Analytics Designer

  • In an analytic application, you can now run Smart Insight for a table widget.

Version 2019.16

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

General

  • You can now decide if people viewing a story can delete its filters.

Data Acquisition, Live data Connections, and Integration

  • For Live Data Connections to universes, aggregations in stories are now supported.

  • When connecting to newer versions of SAP S/4HANA, the authentication method "SAML Single Sign On (Standard Compliant)" is now available. This authentication method simplifies the live data connection setup.

Stories

  • For Radar charts, you can now change the color of the axis and grid lines.

Planning

  • You can now export data to SAP IBP (SAP Integrated Business Planning) directly via an IBP connection and schedule export jobs regularly based on your needs.

  • When adding new members to a table, you can now set the Read and Write permissions at the same time.

Analytics Designer

  • As an application designer, by adding a bookmark scripting object and leveraging the Save API, you can now allow end users to save different states of an analytic application as bookmarks. After creating the bookmarks, application users can either view all available bookmarks, edit or remove any bookmarks in the File Repository, or directly view and delete any bookmarks in the analytic application with the help of their application designer.

  • As an application designer, you can now add a tab-strip widget that contains multiple tabs. The new widget enables you to group other widgets together tab by tab so that you can move, show, or hide all widgets in a tab as a whole.

  • We've further improved application initialization performance by automatically applying lazy rendering (loading content as it's needed) to invisible chart widgets not affected by chart scaling settings. A chart is invisible when it is hidden or the container storing the chart is hidden. During the process, the APIs of invisible data-bound widgets work as usual even though the widgets are not rendered. Later, when you make the widgets visible again, all data in them will be automatically rendered.

System Administration Notes

Administration & Infrastructure

  • Featured files on the home page

You can access files from a featured files tile on the homepage for quick access, saving you time from looking through folders. Featured files will be dynamic based on sharing settings, so team members can edit who sees which file and each user will only see their accessible files on the homepage. Fantastic!

  • Administrators can audit changes made to files' sharing settings

The Activities log is now updated to show details for any changes that are made to the Sharing Settings of files stored under Browse > Files.

    These include:

    • The name of the object whose permissions were changed

    • The permissions that were granted/revoked and to which specific user/team

    • The user who made the change

    • The timestamp of the change

This will allow for the administrators to view their sharing settings history.

  • User & team provisioning API improvements for user properties

Synchronize your user accounts from other systems with default values for the following user preferences:
    • SAP Analytics Cloud UI language

    • Data access language

    • Default date, time, and number formatting

    • Email notification settings

    • URL to a profile picture

  • Add, remove, and reset folders & file permissions with inheritance

We've simplified and improved the share dialog box for your convenience. Now you get visibility into the inheritance of permissions that users & teams are assigned on parent folders. You can choose to break the inheritance at any subfolder level or choose to re-establish inheritance from its parent. To make the dialog box more intuitive, the object owner is displayed, and we have prompting available for you to confirm whether a cascading effect is required. The control is entirely in your hands. You can choose to give specific access levels to multiple users and teams.

  • Edit the sharing settings for samples

Administrators can now change sharing settings on samples that are installed by default, making it easier to control access for samples.

  • Edit the default permissions that users & teams have on the Public folder

Administrators can now edit the default permissions for the Public folder through the "Share Folder" dialogue. Previously, the Public folder was locked down and you had to change the permissions of each file individually. Now, you no longer need to go back and change users' rights manually, just set it and forget it!

  • Users' API Provisioning enhancements

You can now add filters to user GET requests made through the User and Team Provisioning API. This will support the Username and Email attributes.

  • Two-legged OAuth Support

Two-legged OAuth integration support for SAP Analytics Cloud instances running on non-SAP data centers has been added, allowing seamless integration with S/4HANA and Intelligent Asset Management.

Analytics Designer

  • Debug mode

We've now added the ability to debug scripts in the browser script debugger. Gone are the days of loading up other programs!

  • Define filter lines for different input data in R-visualization widgets

When you use R-visualization widgets in Analytics Designer, you can now add filter lines directly to the widget without having to work around using hidden tables. Now if you'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, and enjoy all this extra time we gave you to spare!

  • Geo map widget enhancements

With this update, geo maps will work in Analytics Designer just like they do in Stories! The geo maps will support additional quick menu entries such as full screen, drilling in the Choropleth layer, and filters. We are also adding two new API calls with many more on the way!

  • Set widget size and position according to application logic and canvas size

As an application designer, you'll be able to allow application users to dynamically set a widget's size and position according to application logic and canvas size using the layout-related APIs. Alternatively, users can change the widget width, height, and position statically using the Styling Panel.

  • Define theme

Application designers can now define, load, or edit a theme at application design time, as well as store all the widget settings in a theme. The theme will be stored in the file repository and can be reused in any other analytical application, though owner permissions will be required to make any changes.

  • Panel widget

This update also brings panels to Analytics Designer, enabling you to create a container for grouping widgets together. This will help move multiple widgets around easier, instead of having to move them all individually.

  • Data analyzer

The data analyzer is a predefined ready-to-run service for SAP BW queries. You can use the Builder panel and the Available Items area to navigate and analyze your data by adding and removing dimensions from the table, filtering for items, and changing its display and sort order.

  • Change cell values in your tables at run-time

We've added three new script commands to help you with…
    • Fetching a planning object from the widget’s data source

    • Writing data into a cell

    • Submitting updated data

This should make changing data at run-time a little more enjoyable!

  • Copy and paste technical components

You can now duplicate Scripting objects from the context menu of the outline pane, as well as copy and paste technical components to and from external programs, helping to increase your efficiency!

  • Renaming enhancements

We've now taken the trouble of renaming variables away from you! When you go in to change a widget name in the Analytics Designer outline, the related scripting will automatically be changed for you, saving you time and effort.

  • Specify simple or advanced mode on your dialogue

When using Search to Insight in Analytics Designer, you can choose whether to search in advanced mode or simple mode, with the advanced mode giving you more search suggestions if you so desire.

  • BPC planning sequence widget improvements

A BPC planning sequence UI widget is now available in Analytics Designer along with two new APIs to set the widget's visibility. The BPC Planning Sequence is now also supported by the BPC Live embedded model, continuing with our mission to bring you the greatest variety of data sources possible.

Data Integration

  • SAP S/4HANA exports run in the background

The time has come, from this point onwards, SAC will do all the running in the background when it comes to exporting to S/4HANA, allowing you to focus on more important things.

  • Maintain BW member order in Global Dimensions

Consistency is key. That's why SAC now maintains member order when acquiring BW Global Dimension hierarchies, saving you time and keeping everything exactly where you left it.

  • Replicating data from SAP HANA

You can now import data via the new SAP HANA driver, giving you more flexibility with SAP HANA sources so you can choose whether to import or use a live connection.

    Key details:

    • Data can be acquired from:

      • All view types via the Query Builder

      • All tables and procedures via Freehand SQL

    • Supports single or multi-container

    • Requires setup of SAP Cloud Agent and SCC

  • Import larger volumes of transaction data from BPC

With this update, you can now import much larger volumes of transactional data from BPC to SAC, allowing you to analyze more data than ever before.

  • Import data from Amazon S3, Egnyte, Dropbox, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, and OneDrive via Open Connectors

This update brings access to six new sources which can be set up with SAP Cloud Platform’s Open Connector service found in the SAP Store. The SAP Analytics Cloud administrator will also have a global pause button available to manage usage. Let the information flow begin!
    Note

Currently this feature is available only on non-SAP data centers. A two-digit number in your SAP Analytics Cloud URL, for example eu10 or us30, indicates a non-SAP data center.

  • Import data file size improvements

We now support CSV files up to 2GB and Excel files up to 200MB, giving you double the data import capability. Because when it comes to data and analytics, bigger is always better!

  • Data export improvements

With this feature, you're getting two great updates for the price of one. Not only can you export up to six million rows of fact data, but the speed for exporting is even faster than when you could only export one million rows. You can also choose whether to export facts, calculations, or both, but calculations are still limited to one million.

Data Visualizations

  • Export tables into Excel files

Are you a spread-head and do you love spreadsheets? Even if you just like spreadsheets, now you can export tables in point-of-view scope into Excel, as well as to CSV. We also support export in Explorer mode too!

  • Prevent Viewers from removing Non-Modifiable Story Filters

To increase the designer's control, you now have the option to disable the ability for viewers to remove non-modifiable story filters.

  • Dynamic time filter workflow enhancements

Users can now create dynamic time filters and calculations faster than ever. These filters and calculations can also be adjusted for different levels of granularity (i.e., Periods) with fewer steps than before.

    • Period selections include:

    • Current

    • Previous

    • Next

    • Current & Previous

    • Current & Next

  • Dynamic time offset for page and story filters

Story designers can now create dynamic time filters with offsets for months and years to fine tune exactly which time periods you want on your dashboard.

  • Enhanced linked analysis

Now linked analysis has gotten more pro! A more intuitive design allows users to access linked analysis via the quick action bar, rather than the toolbar. And story designers have greater control and flexibility to select which widgets can be included in linked analysis. This enhancement allows more than one linked analysis group per page!

  • Cross calculations for currency conversion in charts

Convert any currency to any other with SAC's new currency conversion models in charts! This will allow story designers to create currency conversion calculations for each desired currency, making it even easier to interact with global currencies.

  • Variance as a Data label for line, radar, scatterplot, heatmap, and more!

We've now enabled support for adding data labels to several charts, which is perfect for comparing performance between two data figures. Say, for example, you're running a shipping company and want to see how two of your ships, the Olympia and Titanic, are doing. You can now show the variance as a data label directly in your scatterplot, letting you see more than just the tip of the iceberg. Now that's what we call a monumental advancement, some might even call it Titanic.

  • Display percentages or absolute values in Pie/Donut Charts

You can now easily toggle between percentage and absolute values to be displayed in your Donut or Pie Charts, and for the Donut Charts you can also choose to display the total aggregate amount in the center, making it easier to visualize your data.

  • Prioritize front bar data labels in layered bar charts

Story designers can now prioritize the bars in a visualization to show the front bar's data labels only, making it easier to view your information.

  • Dynamic text for any dimension

This will give you the ability to create dynamic text from a Dimension rather than a single filter or input control. Dynamic text will also include the dimension member(s) selected when using linked analysis. For example, when applying a single member page filter in your story, you can build a report style dashboard that dynamically changes your text based on what’s being filtered and shown on screen.

  • Explorer in Embedded mode

Viewers can now access explorer mode in embedded view as long as the story designer enables the feature. This will make it easier for viewers to investigate data beyond existing charts.

  • On-demand Loading of Inactive Values on Story and Page Filters

We've changed the inactive values in story and page filters to load on-demand and made the story opening time faster than ever before!

  • Cross calculation input control in charts

Story designers can create cross calculation input controls in charts, providing more flexibility to end users by allowing them to select which currencies to display at any given time.

  • Optimized performance for open-ended and dynamic date range filters

Story opening times have been improved by delaying queries for dynamic or open-ended date range filters until after the story has loaded.

  • Optimized Geo performance when Clustering is enabled

We've reduced the number of queries for bubble size and color for the Bubble Geo Map legend from four, to one per layer. This will free up slots for other queries on the page allowing other charts to load faster.

  • Stacked bar chart without dimension axis

You can now show multiple measures all stacked without needing a dimension. That's a measurable improvement!

  • Input controls for multiple cross calculations for tables

The new cross calculation input control supports single and multiple member selection in tables, giving you more precision to accurately view your data.

  • Performance improvement for clustered geo maps

Unnecessary legend information in clustered geo maps will no longer be displayed, allowing for load times faster than ever.

  • New default for Story & Page time range filters

Version 2019.13

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

General

  • Administrators can now restrict who can create files and folders within dedicated subfolders of the Public folder. These users still won’t be able to create files and folders directly within the Public folder itself.

Stories

Planning

  • In the calendar, you can now see if processes are related to each other or if they just happen to start at the same time. Also, in the Gantt view, you can now see the time values changing when you drag and drop a process.

  • You can now set up a context for a Calendar task, defining all the relevant information for the task such as the Model, primary or Driving dimension, and assignees and reviewers.

  • When you copy an aggregated account with calculated subaccounts, you can now see additional targets highlighted so you can paste the account value and its underlying records.

Analytics Designer

  • As an application designer, you can now add geo map widgets to your analytic application and allow your application users to create stories from the widgets. Currently geo map widgets don’t support data source-related APIs. Support for this is planned for future waves.

  • Analytics Designer introduces a concept of names for widgets and other application entities to ease the handling effort at design time.

If you as an application designer want to rename some entity, various references to it must be adapted (mainly scripts, dynamic texts, and calculated measures). Previously, you had to do this work manually, which is a tedious job, especially for larger applications.

The new automatic refactoring automates this process as much as possible. Ideally, you don't need to do anything: the rename just works, keeping the application intact.

  • You can now add a Search to Insight object to the scripting area and design its open dialog by defining the source of the questions to be asked. You can also specify whether the dialog is in simple mode or advanced mode and if you want to enable Clean History and Auto Search.

  • You can now use the BPC Planning Sequence widget to run planning sequences for BPC live data connection models. This way, the application user can run a planning sequence, which can contain one or more planning functions, as defined in the BPC system.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.13 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design

  • In this release, we are pleased to announce the general availability of SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design. With Application Design, you can:

    • Create and consume analytic and planning applications in SAP Analytics Cloud.

    • Experience the same look and feel as with stories, because stories and analytic applications share functionality and widgets.

    • Configure the behavior of the widgets with a large set of specific script API events.

This flexibility lets you create a variety of analytic applications, ranging from simple static dashboards to highly customized analytic applications with numerous options to browse and navigate data.

For more information, see Analytic Applications.

  • You can now use the SAP Analytics Cloud for business intelligence license to create, edit, or delete analytic applications. Previously, the SAP Analytics Cloud for planning, standard edition license or the SAP Analytics Cloud for planning, professional edition license was required.

    • We've introduced a new standard role, called Application Creator. This role includes all authorizations required to create, edit, view, or delete analytic and planning applications.

    • If you need to create planning models for your planning applications, you need the Modeler role in addition to the Application Creator role.

    • We've removed the authorizations to create, edit, or delete analytic applications from the Modeler and Planner Reporter roles that used to have these authorizations during the Beta phase of Application Design. These two roles now allow you to view analytic applications.

  • The following changes have been made to the Application Design API:

    • Until further notice, DataSource.setVariableValue and DataSource.getVariables are deactivated.

    • You can use the privateVersion.getOwner API to check if a private planning version is owned by the current user of the private version.

  • You can now access EntitySets exposed via OData Services by programmatic access in Application Design. Use these two new APIs in your script:

    • getEntity: for retrieving a single OData Entity from an EntitySet, by specifying the key to the entity.

    • getEntitiesFromEntitySet: for retrieving all (limited to 1000) Entities from an OData EntitySet.

System Administration Notes

Version 2019.7

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

Data Acquisition, Live Data Connections, and Integration

  • When you import SAP BW data, metadata from BW such as dimensions, attributes, measures, and hierarchies that have already been created in BW are now recognized, and don't need to be recreated in SAP Analytics Cloud. To enable this capability, you'll need SAP Analytics Cloud agent version 1.0.223 or later.

  • Previously, when you imported, exported, or wrote data back to BPC using a BPC connection shared by others, BPC user credentials of the other users were stored in SAP Analytics Cloud. oAuth is now supported as a more secure way of creating a BPC connection; this enhancement ensures that BPC user credentials won't be stored directly in SAP Analytics Cloud. Instead, an oAuth token is generated to communicate between the two systems. What's more, with the combination of oAuth and SAML, you can now use single sign-on and don't need to enter credentials repeatedly.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud now supports complex filters (filtering with multiple dimensions, using the AND & OR operators) in SAP BW queries (live data connections only).

  • When you schedule jobs, the schedule timing now adjusts for Daylight Savings Time according to the time zone you select.

Stories

  • Input controls for flat dimensions (other than in SAP BW) are no longer limited to 4000 members.

  • When adding Area Name Geo Enrichment to models, you can now use country, region and subregion data to create the location dimensions for countries besides the United States. The country data can be provided as ISO3 and ISO2 codes, or the country names in English.

  • The quick menu action for table cells has changed: now when you select a table cell, you need to right-click to bring up the context menu.

  • You can now share your personal story bookmarks with others.

  • You can now create a global story bookmark and share it.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud now supports dynamic HANA input parameters. HANA variables are considered dynamic if they use an expression to determine the value.

  • In tables, you can now combine the creation of a new member for a dimension with the creation of a new line (or column) for an existing but unbooked member combination.

Modeling

  • Models are now available in the Files area.

  • Points of interest (POIs) are now available in the Files area.

Planning

  • When you're creating an allocation step, you can specify a Booking Account. With a separate booking account, you can use one account to set the values to allocate, and then execute the step on a different account.

  • You can now manage Data Locks on a model from within a story table, given the proper permissions are granted.

  • Using the instruction FOREACH.BOOKED, you can now choose to repeat statements only for each dimension combination in FOREACH that has values. Doing this can save unnecessary looping and, therefore, enhance performance.

  • Data entry in unbooked cells is now supported in more cases, including when cell locks are set in the grid and for mass data entry on accounts with different aggregation types. The performance of data entry in unbooked cells has also been improved.

  • Previously, the DATA function always overwrote existing data defined in the scope. Now you can use the instruction DATA.APPEND to append values to existing data rather than overwrite data.

Mobile

  • The SAP Analytics Cloud iOS SDK now supports AirWatch SDK Integrated authentication with Certificates. Apps built using the SAP Analytics Cloud iOS SDK integrated with AirWatch SDK are now able to pull digital certificates from AirWatch for user authentication for live connections only. For details, see the documentation here.

Analytics Hub

  • Administrators can now use the new import feature to upload the following elements: Asset Structure, Branding, Assets, "Picked for you", Asset pictures, User data, and Usage data.

SAP Analytics Cloud Smart Predict

  • From Smart Predict, you can now publish a predictive model to an existing predictive scenario in a Predictive Analytics Integrator (PAi) application. Now, publishing from Smart Predict allows you to both create new predictive scenarios, and also add new improved predictive models to those, or other existing predictive scenarios.

  • In the debrief of a classification or a regression predictive model, the variables with no influence are no longer displayed.

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design (Beta)

  • You can call and execute OData (Version 4.0) actions exposed by a connected on-premise S/4HANA system within an analytic application. In detail, you can create an OData service, define the endpoint URL, and trigger the execution of the action by using scripts.

  • You can now use the NavigationUtils API to navigate from one of your analytic applications to another or from your analytic application to one specific page of a story.

  • With version 2019.7, we've changed the script API:

    • The selection API functions now support multi-selection. To enable this support, the getSelection() functions for tables and charts have been replaced with new getSelections() functions, which return an array of Selection objects, each representing a single selection. The properties of such a Selection object are the dimension IDs; the values are the member IDs.

    • We've removed the types Member, Measure, and Dimension. API functions returning these types (or arrays thereof) now return string or string[], and API functions with input parameters of the removed types now take the ...Info version instead.

    • We've removed the ConvertUtils.integerToString() function, as ConvertUtils.numberToString() has the same functionality.

Please note that your existing analytic applications using these changed or removed API functions won't work anymore. You need to adapt your scripts manually for each analytic application that uses these API functions. For more details, see Using Selection API Functions for Tables and Charts.

  • You can create objects of complex types in a script using object expression notation (used for the new OData scripting options).

  • You can now customize more widget-styling settings. These include: mouse hover and select effect for a dropdown box; the background; font color; mouse interaction effect for a popup; and interaction feedback when hovering your mouse over an image or shape widget.

  • End users can now use a slider and a range slider to input numbers. The slider and range slider can be especially useful in what-if scenarios.

  • Application Designers and users can now view the recently used analytics applications directly in the SAP Analytics Cloud home page. This enhancement lets you quickly access and open these analytics applications.

  • You can now copy planning versions by using the new PlanningVersion.copy API. This API function only works for SAP Analytics Cloud models.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.7 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

    • If you require data acquisition from SAP ERP / SQL Database, the minimum version is 1.0.99.

    • If you require data acquisition from SAP Universe (UNX), the minimum version is 1.0.91.
    • If you require data acquisition from SAP Business Warehouse (BW), the minimum version is 1.0.109.

    • Note

Although it is not required, you can upgrade to the agent version 1.0.223, no matter what data acquisition type you use. Do this to take advantage of updates made to SAP Analytics Cloud agent.

For more information, see System Requirements and Technical Prerequisites.

  • Regarding supported features and required updates for the integration of SAP BW with SAP Analytics Cloud, refer to SAP Note 2541557Information published on SAP site for further details.

Version 2019.6

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

Data Acquisition, Live Data Connections, and Integration

  • You can now use composite join keys to combine data from multiple imported sources.

Modeling

  • The modeling experience has been enhanced. Some of the new features are:

    • An improved user experience as the result of a clean and intuitive user interface.

    • A model overview that outlines all model objects and their attributes.

    • Account and dimension maintenance via the side panel.

    • A new hierarchy management tool (with drag-and-drop functionality for convenient management of hierarchies).

    • Support for "undo" and "redo" capabilities.

    • Easier object management via a contextual side bar.

  • Fiscal date dimensions can now be displayed as a calendar month or as a fiscal period.

Stories

  • You can now create story and page time filters based on a dynamic range, using a "custom current date" that can be set with an input control.

  • You can now change the description for measures and dimensions in your story.

Planning

  • You can now remove assignees from currently running (in progress) Input Tasks as well as from in progress Calendar tasks and processes.

  • Copy & Paste now supports the pasting of facts (all leaves underneath a node are copied) when used on restrictions.

  • This release introduces visual programming for advanced formulas. Visual programming allows business users with no expertise in programming to design a program via dragging and dropping rather than directly writing scripts. Visual formulas can be switched to script for future editing, but currently not the other way around.

Visual programming is not a replacement for script-based advanced formulas. Scripting should remain the primary tool to define and design complicated business scenarios, while visual programming can help you quickly set up a simple business case.

In this wave, when compared with advanced formulas scripts, there are a few functions not yet available in visual programming; these will be supported in future waves:

    • ELIMMEMBER () – Returns the names of the elimination members below the first common parent of the two companies that did inter-company trading.

    • LINK () – Copy or read data from other linked models besides the default model in the data action.

    • DELETE () – Allows users with Delete privileges to clear data facts within a certain data scope.

  • When creating a structured allocation rule, you can now use driver values from another dimension by choosing an account calculated using the LOOKUP function.

Analytics Hub

  • Administrators can now configure either SAP Analytics Cloud or SAP Analytics Hub as the default landing page.

SAP Analytics Cloud Smart Predict

  • When a user account is deleted, all private content that is not shared will also be deleted.

  • When you apply a predictive model, you can now select which variables from the input dataset you want to add to the output dataset.

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design (Beta)

  • The API ArrayUtils.create() accepts a literal of the "Type" enum, so you as user must specify which type the newly created array should be. Previously, you could only create primitive typed arrays. Now, in addition, you can use all non-primitive types as well.

System Administration Notes

  • With the 2019.6 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud agent's minimum version remains at 1.0.75, with the following exceptions:

    • If you require data acquisition from SAP ERP / SQL Database, the minimum version is 1.0.99.

    • If you require data acquisition from SAP Universe (UNX), the minimum version is 1.0.91.
    • If you require data acquisition from SAP Business Warehouse (BW), the minimum version is 1.0.109.

    • Note

Although it is not required, you can upgrade to the agent version 1.0.221, no matter what data acquisition type you use. Do this to take advantage of updates made to SAP Analytics Cloud agent.

  • You can now directly trigger a planning sequence in an SAP Analytics Cloud story based on a live connection model to the BPC embedded system.

  • When you create a model by importing a data file, if the file is small, you now go directly to data integration without needing to select the draft data first.

  • You can now import data directly from an entity into a dataset and use it to perform predictive workflows. You can import data into a dataset from the following sources: Generic OData, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Business ByDesign, SAP Cloud for Customer, SAP Cloud for Customer Analytics, and SAP Integrated Business Planning.

Stories

  • When calculating percentages for Variance charts and Difference From calculations, you can now set the denominator to be an absolute value. This means you will see correct percentage calculations even if the denominator is a negative number.

Calendar

  • When you submit your Calendar task, you can now choose to publish related data changes as well.

Planning

  • After creating calculation columns in tables (using running sum, moving average, or comment, for example), you can now hide the column that the calculation was based on. The calculation column will still be visible.

  • You can now create Input Tasks on Responsive pages.

  • For models with currency conversion, you can run data actions on the currency of your choice (Local or Default Currency).

Mobile

  • You can now view and interact with geo maps on the SAP Analytics Cloud mobile app. See iOS Mobile App Feature Compatibility for some limitations with geo maps on mobile in this first release.

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design (Beta)

  • You can configure the availability of all context menu entries for each widget during the analytic application runtime in the widget's Styling panel.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud now offers a multiple-language solution for strings defined by application designers in various widgets in an analytic application.

  • You can now format a numeric value or a date value via scripting.

  • You can now use the input field widget to receive user-entered text for further processing.

  • You can now reference script variables in formulas in calculated measures.

  • You can now use the improved value help for a function parameter of type enum. The value help now lists all enum literals on top of the proposal list on the very first Ctrl+Space click, so they can be directly accessed.

  • You can now get value help for widgets (for example, table/chart) that are assigned to local variables. This value help is only available if there is only one declaration of the local variable and no subsequent assignments to that variable. The declaration must also be at top level, so that declarations in other block statements (for example, "if" "for" "while") will not be supported.

Fuzzy matching is automatically applied when you write code by using code completion. There is also now value help for RWidgets, SmartDiscoverySettings and DataExplorer functions (like getDataSource().getDataExplorer().setAdditionalDimensions).

  • You can now get the user ID of the current SAP Analytics Cloud user who is executing the application by using the following scripting API: Application.getUserInfo()

The new API returns an object of type "UserInfo" with two properties "id" and "displayName", which contain the information from the corresponding columns in the user database table.

Version 2019.3

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

Data Acquisition, Live Data Connections, and Integration

  • You can now use the unpivot transform to transpose columns into rows when preparing data.

  • You can now import data from systems on different on-premise networks.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud now supports data blending (done via the web browser) between live data models from SAP BW, and data models based on imported data stored in SAC. No additional hardware deployment or licensing is required. Ensure that your SAP BW system has the latest SAP Notes applied, depending upon your deployment:

  • SAP Analytics Cloud now supports data blending (done via the web browser) between imported models and browser-based SAP HANA models.

  • You can now share import data connections with other users in your system. You can also give others rights to edit a connection.

Stories

  • You can now create Waterfall charts when you have a BW data source.

  • When you deselect all values in a page or story filter, the related visualizations wait for you to select a value before refreshing.

  • For tables based on BW data sources, you can now change the order that the measures are displayed in.

  • In Waterfall charts, you can now have four colors, one for each of the four members; Increase, Decrease, Subtotal, and Total. You can also customize the color of the Subtotal member.

  • SAP Analytics Cloud charts now support the Short/Medium/Long text setting in BEx queries.

  • In tables, you can now create "full context" calculations, calculations that apply to a single column or row instead of to a member.

Calendar

  • You can now see the context of your Input Tasks listed in the Calendar task panel.

  • For Calendar tasks, the style options are now beside the task title instead of in a separate panel.

Modeling

  • We've moved models from the Models list to the Files list. To understand why we made this change, and how it might affect you, see this white paper.

Planning

  • You can now use input values from any different data version when running a predictive forecast.

  • In tables that show only booked data, you can now make one existing combination of members visible that does not yet have booked data.

  • When planning on BPC Live connection models, you can now enter values using mass data entry mode.

  • When creating a data action, you can now use calculated accounts and accounts with exception aggregation for Cross-Model Copy Actions.

  • The performance of advanced formulas is further enhanced. Now only selected records are loaded by parsing the MEMBERSET functions and all formula statements; unnecessary FOREACH loop statements are detected in the Data Action designer, and a warning message is provided. This is done automatically for newly created advanced formulas data actions. For advanced formulas created before release 2019.3, you need to re-save the data actions first.

  • In tables, you can now enter amounts that are less than 1 without the leading 0. For example, you can enter ".194 Million" instead of "0.194 Million" or "-.194 Million" instead of "-0.194 Million".

  • For tables, you can now show the option "Reason for unplannable data" on canvas and responsive pages.

Mobile

  • You can now annotate a Story or Boardroom page by drawing or adding text on the page image. When you're done, share the screenshot with your colleagues.

  • If you use VMware AirWatch in your organization to deploy and manage mobile apps, integrate the AirWatch SDK with the SAP Analytics Cloud iOS SDK to take advantage of AirWatch SDK features. Read the SDK help here.

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design (Beta)

  • During analytic application runtime, you can now create a story from a chart or table with all the settings and data statuses, such as filters, inherited.

  • The Outline panel in the analytic application is now redesigned. Canvas and popups are now displayed under the Layout tree while script objects and script variables are now displayed under the Scripting tree. Global variables are now renamed as script variables.

  • You can now add a script to a widget from the quick action menu. Also, you can now comment/uncomment a script line in the script editor with the keyboard shortcut Ctlr+ # (for Microsoft Windows).

  • You can now use predictive forecast functionality in application design by clicking the Predictive Forecast button in the tool bar of an analytic application at runtime. Also, more planning APIs are now available for you:

    • Application.refreshData();

    • Table.getPlanning.isEnabled();

    • Table.getPlanning.setEnabled(boolean);

  • You can now use not only primitive types, but also a wide variety of types like "Button", "Dimension", "Date", "Feed" and so on, for:

    • The return type of script functions.

    • The type of script function arguments.

Also, primitive types are now displayed with lowercase first characters, to have a consistent display across the design time: "void", "string", "integer", "boolean", "number".

Version 2019.1

SAP is pleased to announce a new version of SAP Analytics Cloud.

General

Data Acquisition, Live Data Connections, and Integration

  • You can now create a generic OData import data connection to OData version 4.0 sources.

  • To better guide you, and to keep a consistent look and feel with other data sources, we have changed the entire BPC import and export process. The major changes are as follows:

    Workflow
    • Import and export processes are now done in a step-by-step wizard rather than in one dialog.

    Query
    • In the new import process, we separate the selection of dimensions and filtering of dimension members from dimension mapping.

Previously you specify BPC dimensions and filter dimension members to be imported in the Mapping dialog. Now we offer a dedicate step Build SAP BPC Query to do the selection and filtering.

    • In the new import process, you can choose whether you want to build a new BPC query starting from scratch or reuse an existing query derived from previous import jobs as a template.

    Others
    • In the new import process, when importing data to a basic model, you can create dimensions either as public or private dimensions.

    • A brand new mapping dialog is available. In addition to dimension mapping, you can also configure the currency dimension (where the local currency is taken from) in the mapping dialog.

For detailed steps about BPC data import and export, you can refer to Importing SAP BPC Data to a New or Existing Model or Exporting data to SAP BPC.

Also before importing data to SAP Analytics Cloud, make sure you check the minimum BPC support package for import and apply all required notes specified in System Requirements and Technical Prerequisites.

  • Users can now connect using a Generic JDBC driver and can also connect to many additional databases. For a list of the additional databases, see System Requirements and Technical Prerequisites.

  • When importing data into a model, dimension, or story, you can now more easily filter through the list of data sources to select a data source.

Stories

  • For tables, you can now create Cross Calculations for measure-based models.

  • For tables, you can now add table-specific dynamic text to the table title.

  • You can now combine data from multiple acquired sources in the data preparation tool.

  • Search to Insight now understands fiscal phrases, such as “Show sales for fiscal year 2018”.

  • You can now specify refinements such as greater or less than to measures when using Search to Insight.

  • Live HANA models, on most recent HANA 2.0 revisions, now also support the following features that were introduced for acquired data models in previous waves:

    • You can now use the ToNumber(…) function to convert string values to a number in calculated measures or calculated dimensions. Also, a new Dimension to Measure story calculation type is available to convert a dimension to a measure, using a specified dimension context and aggregation operation.

    • You can now use the ToText(…) function to convert numeric values to a string in calculated measures or calculated dimensions. The Measure-Based Dimension calculated dimension form has also been enhanced to allow for measure to dimension conversions with a given scale and precision (in addition to the already available dimension and filter context).

    • In charts, tables, and tooltips you can now change how your units and currency are displayed as well as where the units and currency symbols should be placed in relation to the numeric values.

    • For tables, you can now create Cross Calculations.

  • In tables, you can now display the ID and Description in separate fields.

Calendar

  • You can now pin your Calendar to your home screen, making it easy to quickly see your tasks.

  • In your Calendar tasks, you can now more easily handle large numbers of assignees.

  • You can now see when tasks are only partially accomplished.

Allocations

  • When creating an allocation step, you can choose whether to keep the values of the source cells and whether to overwrite the values of the target cells. These options are then taken into consideration during execution, allowing structured allocations to be executed multiple times leading to the same results (without actually moving values but by copying instead).

Planning

  • In Advanced Formulas, you can now define the version dimension in a RESULTLOOKUP function to read data from another version.

  • A new function called DELETE has been introduced in Advanced Formulas to support delete data facts in a model.

  • When you start to type an inverse formula, you can now complete it by selecting a suggested inverse formula from the hint list.

Modeling

SAP Analytics Cloud Application Design (Beta)

  • As an application designer, you can now use script objects in analytic applications to group a set of functions. A function can be used to encapsulate certain script logic used in different other script functions like event handlers. This avoids duplicating code and makes maintenance of applications easier.

  • The following API functions are new:

    • DataSource: setMemberDisplayMode, getMemberDisplayMode, getMeasures

    • Chart: getDimensions, getMeasures

    • Table: getDimensionsOnRows, getDimensionsOnColumns

The following API functions have changed:

    • DataSource: copyDimensionFilterFrom

    • Chart: addMeasure, removeMeasure

Also, the type Dimension has been introduced and can be used as an input parameter for several API functions that currently use the type DimensionInfo. Now you can use both types: Dimension and DimensionInfo.

  • The product now provides a PostMessage API to allow application designers to enable communication between a host HTML page and an analytic application embedded inside an iFrame on the host HTML page. The change also allows communication between an analytic application and an HTML page embedded in it, via the analytic application’s Web Page tile.
