Use the Scorecard Overviews view to get a complete overview of how well the strategy is being executed. Scorecard Overviews shows you a hierarchical view of the selected context, its perspectives, and other items such as objectives, KPIs, and/or initiatives.

An overview that includes KPIs provides insight from the strategic vision to the operational level.

An overview that includes initiatives provides insight to where resources are being focused in order to achieve strategic goals. This view answers questions such as “Are resources being focused evenly across all aspects of the strategy?”, “Are some areas of strategy receiving insufficient attention?” and “For the objectives that are not being met, what initiatives are in place to improve achievement in those areas and how well are those initiatives being executed?”

Features

The Scorecard Overviews view has the following features:

Flexible formats
  • You can change the layout between perspectives with KPIs, perspectives with objectives and KPIs, perspectives with objectives and initiatives, or perspectives with objectives, KPIs, and initiatives using Select Format.

  • You can control which columns of information appear in the table using Select Format.

    Note Note

Your selections also affect the columns displayed when you select an objective and go to the Objective Details view.

    End of the note.

If your scorecard administrator set up additional Actual and Target columns to compare actual and targets for other time periods, you can add those columns to the view using Select Format.

For information about layouts and columns, see Format Selections.

Context

The context appears in the first row of the table. If the context is not scored, it appears as standard text. If your scorecard administrator set up the context to be scored, the context will show a status indicator in the Status column. The scored context provides a general status about the whole scorecard. The scored context is a link to the Context Details view where you can see the detailed status information about the standard KPI or the perspectives used to color the context's status indicator.

For more information, see Context Details.

Perspectives

The perspectives appear below the context. Each perspective shows the objectives, KPIs, and/or initiatives associated with it, depending on the format you select.

If the perspective is not scored, then it appears as standard text. If your scorecard administrator set up a perspective to be measured by a KPI or by objectives, the perspective shows a status indicator. The scored perspective is a link to the Perspective Details view. In the Details screen, you can see the KPI or objectives used to determine the status of the perspective.

For more information, see Perspective Details.

Objectives

If your format includes objectives, the objectives display status indicators that represent their performance. Each objective is a link to its Objective Details view where you can see which KPIs are associated with the objective and the calculation method used to compose the objective's status indicator color.

For more information, see Objective Details and also see Objectives.

KPIs
  • If your format includes KPIs, the KPIs display status indicators that represent their performance. Each KPI is a link to its KPI Details view where you can see the measures that define the KPI's performance, the score that compose the KPI's status indicator color, and other important information about the KPI.

For more information, see KPI Details and also see Standard KPIs.

You can see which KPIs are used to measure initiatives if you are displaying the Associated Initiatives column. To see the initiatives associated with a particular KPI, click the Initiatives link in the Associated Initiatives column. The Initiatives component appears.

    Note Note

The Associated Initiatives column does not appear if your view includes initiatives.

    End of the note.
  • You might see index KPIs listed under their associated perspective, similar to the way standard KPIs are listed. An index KPI represents a collection of standard KPIs. The performance of an index KPI is based on the performance of its underlying standard KPIs. You can use the (-) sign or (+) to see the standard KPIs associated with the index KPI. Since index KPIs are not associated directly with measures the way standard KPIs are, an index KPI does not show any values. Each index KPI is a link to its Index KPI Details view where you can see which standard KPIs are associated with the index KPI and the calculation method used to compose the index KPI's status indicator color, and other important information about the index KPI.

For more information, see Index KPI Details and also see Index KPIs.

Initiatives

If your format includes initiatives, the initiatives display status indicators that represent their performance if they are being measured by a KPI. The initiative author controls whether an initiative is associated with a KPI when creating the initiative. If an initiative does not have a status, it is not associated with a KPI and it is not being measured.

An initiative can appear under a perspective or objective depending on which item it is associated with.

Initiatives have a schedule status and budget status information if you selected those columns using Select Formats.

Each initiative is a link to its Initiatives Summary view in the Initiatives component.

For more information, see Initiatives Summary.

Other Features
  • You can filter the view by standard filters such as time period, latest date, dimension filters, responsible user, objectives, and status. If you are displaying KPIs, you can filter them by trend indicator, lead/lag, and type.

    Note Note

The higher level heading always appears for a filtered item even if the higher level does not meet the filter criteria.

    End of the note.

For more information, see Standard Filters and KPI Filters.

  • If you are displaying the Unread Comments column and you see a Notation pushbutton with a number in it, it means that someone has added a comment. The number represents the number of unread comments for the item. You can read the comments by clicking the Notation pushbutton. You can also create comments and reply to comments if you have the correct permission.

For more information, see Reviewing Comments and Replies.

  • You can restore defaults for a particular layout by clicking Select Format and then selecting Restore defaults.

  • You can drag the cursor over any item in the left-hand column to see the responsible user and description of that item. The information box is removed when you drag the cursor off the item.

  • You can sort on any column that appears as a link. The sort order starts with objectives and then KPIs. Index KPIs appear at the bottom the list of KPIs and the KPIs that comprise the Index KPI are sorted by trend.

    Note Note

Perspectives cannot be sorted. Their order is determined by the scorecard administrator.

    End of the note.
  • You can use the legend to differentiate between different types of objects.

  • Rows are indented to show hierarchy.
