Process documentationBuilding a Link Between Users, Context, Model Connection, Model Locate this document in the navigation structure

The model connection you specify when setting scorecard defaults is the key link between the context, the dimensional model, and users.

There is no strict order in which some steps occur and when the prerequisites have been defined. They are listed in this order to show you how items are linked. In many situations, it is more practical to create the context before creating the model connection because you can get started working with the application quickly that way. For information, see Getting Started with Initiatives, Objectives, and the Strategy.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Prerequisites

Users are added to the application.

The dimensional model is set up with measures for the KPIs.

Someone with Create/Edit Objectives permissions has created perspectives and objectives. For more information, see Perspective and Objective Library Development.

Process

  1. Create a model connection that contains strategy management users and links to a dimensional model. The users are now assigned to this model connection and the dimensional model, but they cannot access the information in the application yet. For information, see Model Connection Development.

  2. Create application groups that contain strategy management users. The users are now assigned to application groups with access to certain tabs and permissions, but they cannot access the application yet. For information, see Application Group Development.

    Note Note

When assigning users to model connections and assigning users to application groups, keep in mind that some or all of the users assigned to application groups for the context must match the users assigned to the model connection.

    End of the note.
  3. Create a context and add objectives to the context. For more information, see Context Development and Perspective and Objective Library Development.

  4. Link the application groups to the context. The users in these application groups can now access this context in the application. These users cannot see any information in the Dashboards and Reports components and there are no KPIs to review. For information, see Application Group Assignments.

  5. Link the model connection to the context. The users in the application groups for this context who are also members of the model connection can now access this context in the application and use Dashboards and Reports. For information, see Linking a Model Connection to the Context.

  6. Create the KPIs and then associate objectives, perspectives, and a context with KPIs. Users can now access this context in the application and see the information provided in context's model connection. The user can see KPIs, Dashboards, and Reports.
