
The application toolbar in the short text editor provides you with a wide range of functions to help you translate efficiently and accurately.
You can access the following functions in the application toolbar:
Goto Previous Line to be Processed/ Goto Next Line to be Processed
To access the next or previous line that needs to be processed because its translation
status is new or modified,
choose
/
in the application toolbar. Lines with translated
status are skipped.
Delete Target Text
To delete a translation in a translation line, place the cursor in the line and
choose
or .
To delete all the translations in a short text object, choose .
Undo
To undo the last change made in a translation line, place the cursor in the line
and choose
or .
If you want to undo all of the actions that you performed since you last saved for all of the texts in the object you are currently editing, choose .
Copy Source Text
To copy a source text into the translation line for one text line, place the
cursor in the translation line and choose
or . Alternatively, you can double-click the source text to copy it to
the translation line. This function always copies the source text into the
translation line, even if it overwrites an existing translation.
To copy source texts into all of the new translation lines in the object, choose . This function does not overwrite any existing translations.
Find / Find and Replace in Target Texts
To find a text or character string, choose
in the standard toolbar and use the Find dialog
box to execute a search. The system displays a dialog box listing the first one
hundred hits. (One hundred is the default value.) If you select the character
string that you require in this dialog box, the system takes you directly to the
text line in the short text editor that contains this character string.
To find specific short texts in the translation lines, and then replace them with
a different text, choose
or . For more information on this function, see Finding and
Replacing in the Target Texts.
Create Comment for Object
To enter a comment that applies to the entire short text object, choose
Create Comment for Object in the application toolbar or . The Comment for Object dialog box enables
you to enter several lines of text, change an existing comment, or delete the
entire comment. You can create a comment to share important information about the
object with other translators. The comment applies to the entire object and is
displayed at the top of the screen for all translators who access the object for
translation in the short text editor, irrespective of their source and target
languages. If the comment consists of several lines, the system only displays the
first line at the top of the short text editor. To display an existing comment in
its entirety, choose
Display/Edit Comment for Object in the application toolbar
or .
Display Preview
After translating some short text object types, you can choose
or in the short text editor to preview the texts you have just
translated exactly as the end users will see them. For more information, see Previewing
Short Text Objects.
Find Full Texts for Abbreviations
If an abbreviation has been used in the source or target text, you can display the
full text for the abbreviation, providing that a full text has been defined in the
proposal pool. Choose
or . For more information, see Displaying
Full Texts for Abbreviations.
Copy Best Proposals
To copy a best proposal into a specific translation line, you can double-click the best proposal (which is displayed directly beneath the translation line) or select the translation line and choose .
To copy best proposals into all of the new translation lines in the object you are
currently translating, choose
or . For more information, see Copying Best Proposals into all New Lines.
Create System Standard With Status S for Modified Lines
You can create the translation in every modified line in the object as a system
standard with quality status S. Choose
or . If you want to use this function, your user profile in transaction
LXE_MASTER needs authorization object
PPQ3 with the value 01. This authorization object is included in the following
standard profiles: TR,
TS,
VG,
VJ,
VK,
XT, and

Display Proposals for Source Text in Other Language
To display proposals for a source text that exist in the proposal
pool of a different target language, choose
or . If you have not maintained the Text Display in Other
Language field in your language settings, the Language
Selection dialog box appears. It enables you to choose a target
language with a double-click. A separate window appears in which the contents of
the proposal pool are displayed for the source text in the selected target
language. For more information on the language settings, see Transaction
SE63 and refer to the section about how to maintain your translation
settings. For more information on how to display a translation in a different
target language, see Displaying Other Target Languages.
Find Source Texts in SAPterm
To display entries and their translations from the SAPterm terminology database for the source text, choose
or . If the source text (that is, the entire string) exists in SAPterm,
the system displays a book icon in the status bar. If you want to display the
terminology entry and the translations, choose this book icon. For more
information on the terminology functions in the short text editor, see Finding and Maintaining Terminology.
Unicode Text Length Check
This function is only relevant if you are translating into a multibyte language,
such as Japanese, Korean or Chinese, in a Unicode translation system. If you
choose
, the system highlights the translation lines whose texts exceed the
permitted length. This ensures that texts written in these languages are displayed
correctly even if they are transported to a non-Unicode system. For more
information, see Unicode Text Length Check.
Remove Highlights
By choosing
, you can remove the highlights added to the short text editor after you
searched for a text in the worklist, or performed a Unicode text length check.
Legend
To display the legend for icons in the short text editor, choose
or . For more information, see Legend for Icons in the Short Text
