Finding and Replacing in Target TextsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

The short text editor enables you to scan the translation lines for specific short texts, and then replace them with a different text. The system only finds and replaces texts within the object you have accessed.

Procedure

  1. In the short text editor, choose Find and Replace in Target Texts Find and Replace in Target Texts or Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Find and Replace in Target Texts End of the navigation path.
    This takes you to the Find and Replace in Target Texts dialog box.
  2. Enter your settings in the Find group box.
    • In the Find field, enter the text that you want to find.
    • If you only want to search as of the line on which your cursor is currently positioned, select the Starting at Current Line checkbox.
    • If you want your search to be case-sensitive, select the Case-Sensitive checkbox.
  3. If you want to replace the text you are searching for with a different text, maintain the settings in the Replace group box:
    • Select the Replace With checkbox, and enter the text that must replace the text you are looking for.
    • If you want to confirm each instance of the search string before it is replaced, select With Confirmation. This is the recommended setting. If you want to replace all of the texts at once, select Without Confirmation.
  4. Choose Find.
  5. Depending on the search method that you selected, proceed as follows:
    • If you did not selected the Replace With checkbox, the system jumps to the first text it finds. To continue the search, choose Find Next in the Find and Replace in Target Texts dialog box.
    • If you selected the Replace With checkbox to replace the text you are looking for with a different text, and if you selected With Confirmation, you can decide whether to replace each text that the system finds or whether to continue the search without replacing.

      If you choose Find Next in the Find and Replace in Target Texts dialog box, the system does not replace the text that it has already found and searches for the next text that contains the search string. If you want to replace the text that the system has found, choose Replace. The status bar shows you how often the text was found, and how often it was replaced.

    • If you selected the Replace With checkbox to replace the text you are looking for with a different text, and if you selected Without Confirmation, the system replaces all of the texts that satisfy your search criteria. The status bar shows you how often the text was found and replaced.
