The Dashboard Builder has two modes:

  • In configuration mode, you can create, change, and delete dashboards, tiles, and detail views. The corresponding procedures are described in Creating and Editing Dashboards and in Creating and Editing Tiles and Detail Views.

  • In view mode, only one dashboard is displayed in one browser window. You cannot change any configuration settings or switch to another dashboard, but you can adjust the display in the detail views Smart View and Generic Analytics Application (see below) to suit your requirements. Therefore, this Dashboard Builder mode is designed for those users who do not want to create dashboards or tiles themselves, rather only want to display the relevant dashboards.

In this procedure, the view mode features for these business users of Dashboard Builder are described.

Prerequisites

You have opened a dashboard in view mode. There are two ways to do this:

  • You use a URL to open the dashboard in view mode. For example, dashboards provided by SAP in the launchpad are opened in this way.

  • After opening a dashboard in configuration mode, choose the View Mode pushbutton in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Procedure

If you have opened a dashboard in view mode, you have the following functions available:

  • There is a pushbutton with a magnifying glass at the top right-hand side of the tile. Choose this pushbutton to display the corresponding tile full-screen. This function is particularly recommended if so many values are displayed in the tile that the normal view for the tile is not sufficient.

    Note that in full-screen, the visualization of the tile is displayed and not the detail view.

  • Select a tile in the dashboard. Depending on the detail view implementation, one of the following screens is displayed:

    • Drilldown views

      Depending on the implementation, this detail view consists of tiles on the top, and drilldown views at the bottom of the screen. You can switch to different views by choosing an entry from the dropdown list box below the tile. The details of the display depend on the implementation of the drilldown view (see Creating a Drilldown View).

      For any of these entries, you can switch between chart types in the drilldown view by choosing the corresponding pushbutton.

    • Smart view

      This detail view allows you to analyze the data displayed in the associated tile in more detail for example, perform a drill down or set additional filters. Compared with the detail view Generic Analytics Application described below, the smart view has the advantage that you can use it for more than just the data source type BW query; you also have more flexibility regarding the visualization of the measured values.

      Note Note

      If Drilldown Views or Smart View are implemented as the detail view in the tile, you can click on an area of the chart or table to set a filter implicitly, meaning that the value clicked on is (if this is possible from the data source) adopted as the filter value. You thereby have a real drill down available in the detail view.

    • Generic analytics application

      This detail view also allows you to analyze the data displayed in the associated tile in more detail; the application is possible for all tiles whose data supply flows via a BW query. It gives you the option of creating any drilldowns and filters from the query's fields and outputting these visualizations as both a table and a chart.

    To return to the main view of the dashboard, choose the arrow button in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

  • If a global filter is defined for the dashboard, you can set its value as follows:

    1. Choose the Global Filter pushbutton in the top right-hand corner of the dashboard. The global filters are listed.

    2. Select a global filter. The screen Filter Dimension opens.

    3. Specify the Filter Operator and the filter values.

    4. Choose Copy.
