 Assigning Material and Infrastructure Objects

Use

You assign material and infrastructure objects to force elements, positions, and jobs to map their material and infrastructure categories . The following processing functions are available:

  • You can create new assignments. New assignments have Planned status.

  • You can delete existing assignments that have Planned status without an approval process.

  • You can perform the following functions for existing assignments in Active status:

    • You can also delimit these assignments without an approval process. Your changes are saved in Active status.

    • You can delimit or delete specific assignments with an approval process. For more information, see Delimiting/Deleting with Approval Process .

      Note Note

You can delete delimitation and deletion processes in Planned status.

      End of the note.

You can make the following assignments to map hierarchy -based material and infrastructure objects:

  • Assignments of architectural objects to infrastructure objects

For more information, see the documentation for Flexible Real Estate Management in SAP Library.

  • Assignments of material planning objects to material containers

Prerequisites

You are familiar with the following applications and the additional functions for assignments.

You may have to select an organizational measure before you can process assignments.

Creating Assignments to Force Element, Position, and Job

You can create a new assignment in the Structures Workbench (edit mode):

  1. In the structure area or selection area, select the object to which you want to assign a material or infrastructure object.

  2. In the detail area, choose the object-specific tab page.

  3. Choose Create Assignment .

  4. Select the required object and assign the properties (such as validity period).

If an MPO has additional parts, you can decide how to assign these additional parts, depending on the object and Customizing setting (see also Additional Part ).

  5. Choose Execute.

  6. Save your changes.

You can create a new assignment in the Structures Workbench (edit mode) also by copying an existing assignment:

  1. Choose the object-specific tab page.

  2. Select the assignments that you want to copy.

  3. Choose Copy Assignment .

  4. Change the properties of the assignment.

  5. Save your changes.

In the Structures Workbench (edit mode), you can copy assignments of material or infrastructure objects to a different object of the same type:

  1. Select the force element (structure area) or the position (selection area) with the assignments that you want to copy.

  2. In the selection area, choose Start of the navigation path Copy Next navigation step <Object Type> Copy Assignments Next navigation step <Assignment> End of the navigation path .

  3. In the Copy from screen area, select the assignments that you want to copy for the selected object.

  4. In the Copy to screen area, specify the object that is to receive the assignments. Also specify the required validity period of the new assignments.

  5. Choose Execute.

    A log is displayed.

  6. Choose Continue and save your changes.

You can assign a material or infrastructure object to the same object several times only if the assignments differ in at least one of the properties (such as validity period).

If you create an assignment that overlaps the period of an existing assignment with identical properties, the system adjusts the existing assignment accordingly (that is, it shortens, extends, interrupts, or deletes it completely).

Deleting or Delimiting Assignments

You can delimit or delete assignments in the Structures Workbench (edit mode):

  1. Choose the required tab page.

  2. Select the required assignment.

  3. Choose the required function.

    • Delimit Assignment (delimit without approval process)

    • Delete Assignment (delete without approval process)

    • Start of the navigation path Planning Next navigation step Plan Delimitation End of the navigation path (delimit with approval process)

    • Start of the navigation path Planning Next navigation step Plan Deletion End of the navigation path (delete with approval process)

If you want to delimit an assignment, you have to enter a delimitation date.

  4. Save your changes.

A report is also available for deleting, delimiting, and replacing assignments of MPOs to force elements.

Deleting Planned Processes

In the Structures Workbench (edit mode), you can delete delimitation and deletion processes that have Planned status.

  1. Choose the required tab page.

  2. Select the deletion or delimitation process in Planned status that you want to delete.

  3. Choose Start of the navigation path Planning Next navigation step Delete Planning. End of the navigation path

  4. Save your changes.

Mass Changes

Using a mass change, you can change the properties of several assignments to an object simultaneously.

  1. You are in the Structures Workbench (edit mode).

  2. Choose the material object-specific tab page.

  3. Choose Set Filter and select the assignments that you want to change.

  4. Select the required column.

  5. Choose Mass Changes .

  6. Specify the required value and confirm your entry.

All assignments for which a data change is possible are changed.

  7. Save your changes.

Additional functions are available for mass changes .

Alternative Procedure

Alternatively , you can create or edit assignments on the Force Elements or Position/Job tab page in the application Authorized Materials and Material Packages (change mode).

Note Note

You can delete several assignments of a given material object to different objects at the same time, for example.

End of the note.

Assigning Material Planning Objects to Material Containers

You want to assign MPOs to a material container . You can make this assignment from both object types.

  1. Start the Authorized Materials and Material Packages application (edit mode).

  2. Choose one of the following:

    • The Material Container tab page of the MPO and enter the required material containers as well as the relevant number and material indicator

    • The Material Plng Object tab page of the material container and enter the required MPOs as well as the relevant number and material indicator

If an MPO has additional parts, you can decide how to assign these additional parts , depending on the object and Customizing setting.

  3. Save your changes.

The assignments are created with the status Planned . On the above tab pages, you can now request or approve the assignments, for example.
