Creating Proposals in the Proposal Pool

Accessing the Proposal Pool from the Short Text Editor

1. Enter your translation in the translation line in the short text editor, or change the existing translation.

2. To access the proposal pool, click the Branch to Proposal Pool icon in the status bar of the translation line.

   For more information on how to access the proposal pool from the short text editor, see Accessing the Proposal Pool and Translating in the Short Text Editor.

   Note

   The short text editor includes two functions that enable you to create system standards in the proposal pool without having to branch to the proposal pool first: Create system standard with status S for modified lines and Create proposal immediately (system standard with status S). For more information on these functions, see Translating in the Short Text Editor and Functions in the Short Text Editor.

3. The text that you entered in the translation line is highlighted in a different color at the top of the proposal pool next to the Change Target Text icon. If you want to create a different text as a proposal, click this icon. A dialog box appears in which you can enter the desired text.

   To create the proposal, proceed as follows:

4. In the proposal pool, click the Create New Proposal icon next to the type of proposal you want to create:

   • To create a system standard, click the Create New Proposal icon next to System Standard.

   • To create the translation as a domain standard for the domain to which the object belongs, click the Create New Proposal icon next to Domain Standard.

     If you want to create a domain standard for a domain that is not in the list, click Display Additional Domain. A dialog box appears for you to double-click the domain that you require.

     Note

     If you want to use this function, your translator profile must include the authorization object PPDO with value 01.

   • To create an exception, click the Create New Proposal icon under the node of the domain and next to Exception.

   • To create an abbreviation, click the Create Abbreviation icon next to the proposal for which you want to define the abbreviation. For more information on how to create abbreviations, see Creating Abbreviations and Full Texts.

5. All proposals in the proposal pool, except exceptions, have a quality status. The Select Status dialog box appears if you are creating a system standard, domain standard, or abbreviation.

   Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the proposal.

   Your translator profile determines which quality statuses you are authorized to assign. For more information on the quality status of proposals and the authorizations you need to assign them, see Quality Status and Translator Profiles.

   Note

   You can create system standards in a single step. Depending on the required quality status, choose the Create A, Create S, Create B, or Create X pushbutton.

6. The system saves your proposal pool changes automatically. You do not need to save. To return to the short text editor, choose Back.

Accessing the Proposal Pool using Transaction SLPP

1. On the initial screen of transaction SLPP, check that the default source and target languages are correct for the proposals you want to edit. These values are taken from your translation settings. For more information on these settings, refer to Transaction SE63 and read the section "Defining Your Translator Settings".

2. In the Source and/or Target group boxes, enter the source text (or source and target text) of the proposal pool entry in the Text field.

3. Choose Execute Search.

4. If you only entered a target text as your search criterion, and if the proposal pool contains several entries for this target text, a dialog box appears in which you can double-click the source text that you require. Choose Execute Search again.

5. The text that you entered in the Text field in the Target group box is highlighted at the top of the proposal pool next to the Change Target Text icon.

   To create proposals, proceed as described in steps 4 and 5 of the section Accessing the Proposal Pool from the Short Text Editor.

   Note

   If you want to use transaction SLPP to create proposals, you must enter the target text in the Text field in the Target group box.

   Alternatively, you can enter the source text in the text field in the Source group box and choose Execute Search. If a proposal pool entry exists for the language direction you have selected, the Edit Proposals screen appears. Double-click the proposal you want to edit. Choose Execute Search again.

6. The system saves your proposal pool changes automatically. You do not need to save. To return to the initial screen of transaction SLPP, choose Back.
