
You can create an abbreviation in the proposal pool and assign it to an existing full text. You can also create a full text and then assign an abbreviation to it. When you create an abbreviation for a full text, or create a full text and then assign an abbreviation to it, the system saves the full text and its abbreviation in a monolingual table. For more information on abbreviations, see Abbreviation .
This document explains how to proceed in the following three situations:
Creating an abbreviation for an existing full text
Creating a full text for an abbreviation that already exists as a system or application standard
Creating a full text and abbreviation at the same time
You can create abbreviations for system standards and application standards, but not for exceptions.
Creating an Abbreviation for a Full Text
If you want to create an abbreviation for an existing full text in the proposal pool, proceed as follows:
Access the proposal pool and make sure that the text you want to create as an abbreviation is highlighted at the top of the proposal pool. For more information on how to access the proposal pool, see Accessing the Proposal Pool .
Click
next to the system standard or application standard to which you want to assign the abbreviation.
The Choose Status dialog box appears. Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the abbreviation.

The system saves the abbreviation and its quality status automatically. Choose Back to exit the proposal pool.
Creating a Full Text for an Abbreviation
An abbreviated translation has been defined as a system or application standard in the proposal pool, rather than as an abbreviation. To create a full text and then assign the abbreviated translation to it as an abbreviation, proceed as follows:
Access the proposal pool and make sure that the abbreviated translation for which you want to create a full text is highlighted at the top of the proposal pool. For more information on how to access the proposal pool, see Accessing the Proposal Pool .
Choose
next to the abbreviated translation.
A dialog box appears in which you can change the abbreviated translation. Enter the full text and choose Enter .
Choose
under System or under the domain for which you want to create the full text as a proposal.
The Choose Status dialog box appears. Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the full text.

The system saves the full text and its quality status automatically.
To assign the abbreviation to the full text, choose
next to the full text.
The Choose Status dialog box appears. Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the abbreviation.
The system saves the abbreviation and its quality status automatically, and assigns it to the full text.
The original abbreviated translation still exists. Choose
to delete it.
The system saves your proposal pool changes automatically. Choose Back to exit the proposal pool.
Creating a Full Text and Abbreviation at the Same Time
Neither a full text nor abbreviation exists for a source text. If you want to create a full text and abbreviation, proceed as follows:
Access the proposal pool and make sure that the full text you want to create is highlighted at the top of the proposal pool. For more information on how to access the proposal pool, see Accessing the Proposal Pool .
Choose
next to System Standard or Application Standard, depending on the type of proposal you want to create.
The Choose Status dialog box appears. Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the proposal.
The system saves the full text and its quality status automatically.
Choose
next to the full text that is highlighted at the top of the proposal pool.
A dialog box appears in which you can enter the abbreviation. Choose Continue .
Choose the
icon next to the full text.
The Choose Status dialog box appears. Double-click the quality status that you want to assign to the abbreviation.
The system saves the abbreviation and its quality status automatically, and assigns it to the full text. Choose Back to exit the proposal pool.
