Creating Object ListsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

An object list should contain all objects relevant for translation. Object lists serve as the basis for an evaluation and the resulting creation of worklists and statistics. Only the objects contained in the object list appear in the worklists and statistics.

You can create object lists according to one or more of the following criteria:

  • For a selection of packages (collections) and object types

  • For one or more transport requests, whereby it is possible to specify a generic selection of transport requests, such as all Workbench requests released since January 2007.

  • For one or more transport objects, such as a selection of programs, data elements, and messages.

For more information, see Object Lists .

Prerequisites
  • If you want to create an object list on the basis of a single transport request, you need to create a transport request and fill it with all the objects that you want to create, and ensure that it is available in the system. If you want to create an object list on the basis of several existing transport requests, make sure that you know exactly which transport requests contain the objects that you want to translate, and do not contain objects that are not relevant for translation.

  • Your translator profile has authorization object OBJL with the value 01 .

Procedure
  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER.

  2. On the Evaluations tab page, choose Object Lists .

The Object Lists dialog box appears. Any existing object lists are displayed in this dialog box.

  3. If an object list already exists, and was created with exactly the same parameters that you want to define now (for example, all objects in collections with names starting with Z*), then the simplest way to create a new object list is to copy the existing object list. Simply select the object list to be copied and choose the Copy icon. You can now proceed to step 11 of this procedure. The system creates a new object list according to the same parameters, adding any new objects that match these parameters since the last object list was created.

  4. To create a new object list with different parameters to existing object lists, choose Create

  5. Enter a description of the object list in the Description field, and save your entry.

    Note

Try to enter as meaningful a description as possible to help you recognize the object list again later

    The Parameters dialog box appears.

  6. To renew the domain assignment , switch on the checkbox Renew Domain Assignment. We recommend that you do this each time that you create an object list.

  7. If you want the object list to contain objects from specific packages (collections), proceed as follows:

    1. Under Global , choose No Entries next to Object Types .

The Object Type Selection (Groups) dialog box appears.

    2. Double-click the object types to be taken into account when the collections are evaluated and choose Execute.

This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected object types is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Types.

    3. Choose No Entries next to Collections .

      The Collections dialog box appears.

    4. Select the collections to be taken into account when the object list is created and choose Continue.

This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected collections is displayed on the pushbutton next to Collections .

  8. If you want the object list to contain objects from one or more transport requests, proceed as follows:

    1. Under ABAP System , choose No Entries next to Transports .

The Transports/Piece Lists dialog box appears.

    2. In the first column, enter some (or all) of the name of the transport request that you want to use as the basis of the object list. In the second column you enter the transport type (you can use F4 to help you here). In the third column, you enter the status of the transport request - again you can use F4 to help. The next 2 columns are the start date and time, if you want to collect generic transport requests from a certain time period. The last 2 columns are the end date and time. Here are a few examples of entries you can make in this dialog box:

      Example
Table 1: Creating an Object List According to Generic Transport Requests
      ABCK* W R 01.01.2007 00:00:00 31.12.2007 00:00:00
Table 2: Creating an Object List According to a Single Transport Request
      ABCK900100 * *   00:00:00   00:00:00
    3. Alternatively, if you have a list of requests that you want to use as the basis for the object list, copy their names to your clipboard, then choose Import from Clipboard in the Transports/Piece Lists dialog box.

The system enters the required transports correctly in the dialog box, saving you time.

    4. Choose Save.

You return to the Parameters dialog box.

  9. If you want the object list to contain specific transport objects, proceed as follows:

    1. Under ABAP System , choose No Entries next to Transport Objects .

The Transport Objects dialog box appears.

    2. Here are a few examples of entries you can make in this dialog box:

      Example
      R3TR PROG ZMM_MATL01
      R3TR MSAG ZMM
      R3TR DTEL ZMATL
    3. Choose Save.

You return to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected transport objects is displayed on the pushbutton next to Transport Objects .

  10. After you have defined the parameters for the object list, choose Save.

You return to the Object Lists dialog box.

  11. Select your object list and choose Activate .

  12. Schedule the object list creation job to run in the background.

Result

The system creates the object list in accordance with the parameters you defined.

The system reserves the object list under the next available sequential number. It is displayed at the bottom of the list in the Object Lists dialog box, together with its activation status, the user who registered the object list, and the registration date.

As soon as the object list creation job is finished, you can perform the following activities:

  • Select the object list and choose Overview to display the total number of objects and number of objects for each object type contained in the object list.

  • Evaluate the object list for one or more target languages. For more information, see Creating Evaluations .

  • Use the object list as the basis for calling up a worklist. For more information, see On-The-Fly Translation .

  • Use the object list as the basis for a proposal pool export. For more information, see Exporting Proposal Pools .

  • Use the object list as the basis for creating top texts . For more information, see Creating Top Texts for an Object List .

You can also manipulate the contents of an object list by editing it or merging several object lists. See the following topics for more information:
