DEMS Objects for Productivity Improvement (Top Texts)
The purpose of top texts is to help you reduce the manual translation workload and save you time and money.
When you run a job to create top texts, the system scans the source texts in question, and then sorts them according to how often they occur in the objects relevant for translation. The source text with the highest level of repetition in the translation project becomes the first source text in the first top text object.
There are two different ways of creating top texts:

Top texts according to an object list
You can run a job that scans the objects in a specific object list to create top text objects. The top text objects list the source texts in order of frequency, where the source text with the highest level of repetition occurs first in the first top text object.
It is possible to run one language-independent job for multiple languages. Each translator calls up the top text objects in transaction SE63 for his or her target language.
It is also possible to run an individual job for each target language. This enables you to be more specific, and restrict the source texts included in the top texts according to a range of criteria.

Top texts according to a worklist of a specific target language
You can run a job that scans the objects in a worklist for a specific target language to create top text objects. The top text objects list the source texts in order of frequency, where the source text with the highest level of repetition occurs first in the first top text object.
If you are translating your project into several languages, this is the best method for exploiting each target language's specific distribution potential. You need to run one job for each target language.
The scenarios described under Examples below help you to decide which of the above methods is the best procedure.
This is how you integrate top texts into the translation workflow. Steps 4 to 7 can be repeated as often as you like during translation, even when other users are performing manual translation.

Create the users who will process the top texts as translators with a translator profile that enables them to create proposals with quality status A. For more information, see Maintaining Translators .

Create top texts.

Trigger processing of top texts. For more information, see Processing Top Texts .

After the translators have processed top texts, run an evaluation with distribution. Check the statistics for each target language to see how many lines were translated via distribution, thanks to the work on top texts.
The scenarios below illustrate that creating top texts according to an object list is only useful if you have just one target language, or several target languages that all need to translate exactly the same scope of object types and collections. Furthermore, you need to ensure that your object list only contains those objects that are relevant for translation. Otherwise, you may waste time during top text processing by creating proposals for source texts that are not relevant for translation.
In all other cases, creating top texts according to the worklist of each target language is a much safer option, because this job only scans the source texts that are actually relevant for translation for each target language.
The only exception is Scenario 5, which illustrates that top texts according to an object list can also be useful if you only want to create top texts for a subset of the objects in the current worklist.
Scenario 1
You need to translate a development as quickly and cost effectively as possible. No translation has ever taken place in any of your systems, so the proposal pool is initially empty. You have four target languages, all of which need to translate the same object types and collections in graphs that you have maintained accordingly in transaction LXE_MASTER. You have created a suitable object list (containing only objects that are translation-relevant) and evaluated it.

Scenario 2
You need to translate a development as quickly and cost effectively as possible. No translation has ever taken place in any of your systems, so the proposal pool is initially empty. You have four target languages, each of which need to translate different object types and collections in graphs that you have maintained accordingly in transaction LXE_MASTER. You have created a suitable object list, which you have evaluated.

Scenario 3
You have been translating a project into eight languages for two months, but progress is slow and you are worried about missing the deadline. You have already created proposals, but want to translate in a more targeted and time-efficient way.

Here you need to make sure that you restrict the top text job, so that it only scans source texts in new lines and only offers source texts for which no proposal yet exists.
Scenario 4
You have been translating a project into a specific target language for two months and want to check the proposals you have created so far, to make sure that each proposal is correct and has a suitable quality status. You do not have much time for this, so you want to check the proposals for the most frequently-used source texts first.

Here you need to make sure that you restrict the top text job, so that it only scans source texts for which a proposal exists.
Scenario 5
You have been translating a project into eight languages for two months and a new development has just been released for translation. You have created a graph for all the collections belonging to this development. You have also included this development in the object list and evaluation for the rest of the project in worklist 1. You want to create top texts on the basis of just the objects in the new development.
Recommended Action: Create Top Texts According to Object List
Create a new object list for the collections in the graph you created for this project and the object types relevant for the eight languages. If different languages translate different object types, then you have to create additional object lists to reflect the object types that each language translates. Use this object list as the basis for the top texts job.
