Use this procedure to create and edit articles, banners, link lists, and other Web content types. Depending on how you want to use the respective Web content, you create or edit the content items directly within a page or in a KM shared content folder (for example, the Global Shared Content folder).

When creating Web content within a page, you use Web content templates. The standard SAP delivery contains the following Web content templates:

  • Article

  • Banner

  • Linked List

  • Paragraph

  • RSS Link List

  • Teaser

Procedure

Creating Web Content for a Single Page

You create Web content in a page using content templates. The system stores the Web content item in the corresponding KM folder of the page. For more information, see Creating Web Content in a Page

Creating Web Content for More Than One Page

If you want to use Web content (for example, a banner) on more than one Web page, you have to store it in a KM folder for shared content (for example, the Shared Content folder of an area, or the Global Shared Content folder.

  1. In the content library, navigate to the folder in which you want to create the Web content.

  2. In the function bar of the folder, choose   New   <item_type>  .

The system opens the relevant content editor in a new window.

  3. After you have finished, save your entries and close the editor.

The system stores the Web content in the respective KM shared content folder. You can use it later more than once within a page and for more than one page.

Note Note

Changes to a Web content item that is reused for more than one page are automatically visible on each of the affected pages, without publishing.

End of the note.
Editing Web Content

You can edit existing Web content within a page or in one of the KM shared content folders, depending on how you have created the content.

  • To edit Web content within a page, in the Content Editor, open the page for editing, and then choose Edit Content in the context menu of the relevant content item. The system opens the relevant Web content editor.

    Caution Caution

If you choose Edit Content more than once, the system opens the corresponding number of editors. To edit the Web content, you must use the last opened editor. If you try to use another open editor, the input fields become empty and the system displays an error message.

    End of the caution.

After you have finished, save your entries and close the editor.

  • To edit Web content in a KM shared content folder, in the Content Library, navigate to the relevant folder, and choose Edit <item_type> in the context menu of the content item in question.

After you have finished, save your entries and close the editor.

Note Note

If you have created a Web content item in a KM folder for shared content, and have subsequently edited that content item within a page, the system applies the changes to the source object. Even if you delete the page, the changes in the source object remain.

End of the note.
