Object documentation Subscription Generator (Subscription Agent) Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Definition

The subscription agent is a tool for generating sites and subscriptions, and for assigning sites to subscriptions, and sites to employees. It is a part of the Administration Console.

Use

By creating subscription generators, you can monitor subscriptions to a given publication consistently at preassigned time intervals and, where necessary, generate subscriptions. You can likewise generate sites, the assignment of subscriptions to sites, and of employees to sites.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

A publication forms the basis of a generator. Rules for determining the criteria values and the corresponding employee keys are defined in the generator. The following options are available when mapping these rules:

·        Static where clauses

·        Dynamic where clauses

·        Call functions

·        The option to link additional criteria.

Active generators are included in a background job and executed at regular intervals, as defined by the user. Executing several generators in a background job simultaneously allows all the generators to be optimized. For example, if executing one generator causes a subscription to be deleted that would then be generated by another generator, the reference to this subscription is simply deleted from the one generator and generated for the other. For more information about background processing, see Structure linkAnalyzing Job Status and Scheduling Background Jobs.

To display subscription generators that have already been defined, choose the object type subscription generator, in the Object type list box. If required make an entry in the Object name field and choose the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text icon.

Note: For Mobile Sales, a set of predicted subscription generators is available. These subscription generators are based on Employee and Territory relationships (see SAP Note 629719).

By selecting the corresponding function, you can now:

·        Create other subscription generators (see Creating Subscription Generators ) or

·        Change or delete existing subscription generators (see Changing or Deleting Subscription Generators). To delete, you have to change the active status of the generator.

·        To monitor the subscription agent, retrieve the Log Data for the Subscription Agent.

To improve performance, we recommend you use subscription agents to generate indexes. For recommendations, see Architecture and Technology® Middleware ® Development ® Generating ® Generating ® Generate Application Table Indexes. Indexes have the Description “subscription agent <Name>”.
