Entering content frameProcedure documentation WWI: Inserting Symbols Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

Note

According to the symbol group defined in the IMG activity Specify Report Symbol Groups in Customizing for Product Safety, you use the Insert symbol function to insert placeholders for values from table fields and characteristic values (such as numerical values or phrases from phrase-related characteristics). The tables can belong to the SAP component Product Safety or other SAP components.

For information on important table and structure fields, see Output Data in SD.

Procedure

  1. Position the cursor at the point where you want to insert the symbol.
  2. Choose WWI ® Insert Symbol.
  3. The Symbol Properties screen appears.

  4. Choose Search.
  5. The Symbol Tree dialog box appears. Open the tree structure. It displays both classes and table-dependent symbols. The symbols are ordered according to symbol group (see the IMG activity Specify Report Symbol Groups in Customizing for Product Safety).

    Note

The tree structure for the class-dependent symbols corresponds to the property tree that is currently set in the SAP System. For performance reasons, the symbol tree is only read the first time and then buffered in WWI. For this reason, if you want to change property trees, you must exit Word in order to get the new property tree the next time you call WWI.

  6. Position the cursor on the required symbol and choose OK.

The symbol key is inserted in the Symbol Properties dialog box in the Symbol field.

  1. If necessary, set the Value Mandatory indicator (see Symbols).
  2. Enter the required data for each expansion mode.

The expansion type displayed in the dialog box depends on the expansion mode defined for symbols in the detail view of the IMG activity Check and Specify Report Symbols in Customizing for Product Safety.

Regardless of the current expansion mode, you can use certain subexpansion types to influence data output.

Expansion Mode

Subexpansion Type

GPC

Note

If you have created the symbol for the long text of an identifier on a report template, but the long text is not available in the SAP System, the short text for the identifier is output following report generation.

  1. If necessary, set the Multiple handling indicator in the Symbol Properties dialog box.
  2. If you

    Then

    Choose First

The system only outputs the first value for the characteristic or the first identifier (of the subexpansion type you specified).

    Choose All

The system outputs all characteristic values or identifiers for a data record (of the subexpansion type you specified).

  3. Confirm your entries.
  4. Word inserts the symbol into the report template.

  5. If you want to edit symbols subsequently, position the cursor within the symbol and choose WWI ® Edit Symbol or Phrase.

Note

If you insert a symbol for values from the value assignment, you must always create a repeating group around the symbol of the main group type.
