Starting and Closing WWI

Prerequisites

Document templates whose layout you want to process in Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) may not have the status RE (Released). If the templates do have this status, reset the status in the hit list for document templates by choosing Report template ® Reset status.

Procedure

In the Product Safety menu, choose Reports ® Edit template ® Report template or Cover sheet template or Template for acknowledgement of receipt.

The initial screen appears.

Enter your search criteria (see Searching for Document Templates).

Choose (Document) template ® Navigation ® Hit list. If the SAP System finds data records that correspond to your search criteria, the hit list appears.

To start WWI, choose Goto ® Document in one of the following screens.

In the hit list, select the document template for which you want to start WWI.

Note

Document templates that have been processed in WWI have the status IP (In processing on workstation) and cannot be called for processing in WWI again.

Caution

If you are already editing one report template on a front end, a lock prevents you from editing other report templates on the same front end. If you were editing a report template using WWI, and the RFC connection was interrupted, you must unlock the front end so that you can call the report template again for editing. You can use the SAP System to remove the lock by choosing Utilities ® Reset front end in the report template hit list. However, you should first make sure that no templates are being edited on the front end.

Microsoft Word is called with a document in which you can edit your document template.

To return to the SAP System and make the changes, choose WWI ® Check template in WWI. Correct any errors that occurred.

Choose File ® Back to R/3 and Save.

The system closes Word and takes you back to the SAP System. The report template and the symbol structure you defined are saved in the R/3 database.

On return to the SAP System, you are always taken back to the hit list for document templates.

The template is assigned a status according to how you return from WWI:

Procedure	Resulting status
You have checked the template and have returned with save to the SAP System.	Status IW (In work)
You have not checked the template and have returned with save to the SAP System.	Status UN (unknown)
The WWI start fails.	Status SE (system error)

Result

After you have created the layout for your report template, and assigned the report template to a generation variant, you can simulate a report from the report template in specification management (see Testing Layouts).

To release the document template, select it in the hit list and choose (Document) template ® Release. You can then use the document template to generate reports (see Report Management).
