Surgery Work Station
The Surgery work station is an application for process-oriented documentation and monitoring of one or more surgeries.
The Surgery work station provides an overview of the documentation status of a surgery and indicates the existence of relevant information.
Example
If an infection is diagnosed in a patient during a preliminary examination, this can lead to a modified sequence in the operating room. The Surgery work station provides an overview of when and why this surgery was, e.g. processed and/or which surgery tasks were already completed.
The Surgery work station is a variant of the documentation work station. During the monitoring and documentation of surgeries in the Surgery work station, documents receive a reference to a Surgery Task or to a Surgery Situation.
Note
The Surgery work station will, in future, replace the surgery monitor.
You can currently use the surgery monitor and the surgery work station in parallel on your system.
However, parallel use of these two programs within one operating department is not recommended. Therefore, all users of a department should simultaneously start using the Surgery work station.
The system administrator can use the organizational unit-related parameter (OU parameter) OP_MON_ACT to determine with which tool surgeries are documented.
You can also use the Surgery work station to document surgeries which were created before the Surgery work station was implemented in your clinic. Dependent on the value of the OU parameter OP_MON_ACT, you access the Surgery work station or the Surgery Monitor for surgeries that already had documents assigned prior to the introduction of the Surgery work station.
See Surgery Organizational Unit-Related Parameters
Recommendation
You should not document a surgery in parallel in the surgery monitor and the Surgery work station, as the system ignores these entries in the Surgery Monitor from the Surgery work station for surgeries for which a situation and corresponding surgery tasks were already entered in the Surgery work station. In this case surgery tasks cannot therefore be flagged as completed.
You can call the Surgery work station (as with the surgery monitor) in views of the following view types of the clinical work station:
Occupancy
Arrivals
Departures
Clinical Orders
Surgeries
Surgery Scheduling
Outpatient Clinic/Service Facility
Furthermore, the Surgery work station with static task components is also available from the patient organizer and various reports (e.g. RN1MIOPST
, RN1OPZST
, RN2OPBU2
, etc.).
The Surgery work station is available to you if you have activated the business function Clinical System Enhanced Documentation Processes
(ISHMED_EDP
).
Note
The enhancements of the surgery work station (for example, the use of the chart, the clinical overview, etc.) are available if you have activated the business function Clinical System Situation Based Clinical Documentation
(ISHMED_SCD
).
In order to be able to call and use the Surgery work station, you must first create situation, profile and task templates, in the same way as in the documentation work station.
See Configure Surgery Work Station
You must also adapt the customizing of calls in the clinical work station (e.g. the function variants) (see Edit Function Variant).
You must also adapt the authorizations.
See Surgery System Authorizations
You can use the corresponding business add-ins (BAdIs) for adaptations in the display of the content in the Surgery work station.
The Surgery work station provides functions for the following requests in the surgery area:
Process-oriented documentation of surgeries using surgery tasks
Process-oriented monitoring (Monitoring Components) of surgeries using the completion status of Profiles for surgery tasks.
The Surgery work station consists of components of the documentation work station and an additional monitoring component.
