Function documentationSelection List for Order Types

If you use i.s.h.med to create a new clinical order or a new request and the initiating organizational unit (OU) is predefined by the current OU or the planning/initiating OU or department in the work area, the system provides you a selection list of all the

  • Order types - (-)

  • Order templates - (-)

  • Request types - (-)

  • Existing clinical orders for the selected patient - (-)

available to the initiating OU. The selection list for order types displays a clear visualization of the selection process and supports enhanced processes (e.g. inter-departmental ordering scenarios or central planning scenarios).

Depending upon the call situation you are provided with two variants of the selection list:

  • Selection list (Create Order: Service Selection dialog box)

  • Selection list with the option for assigning appointments (Create Order: Selection for Assigning Appointments dialog box). You use these if you wish to assign order types for previously determined appointments and then create a link.

See Creating Appointment and Clinical Order for detailed information on assigning appointments to order types in the selection list.

The order types, order templates, profile types, and request types are available on various tab pages. Profile types form a hierarchy which is visible in the selection list and can be expanded.

Prerequisites

In order to be able to use the selection list, the system administration must have executed the necessary Set Up Functions for the Clinical Order, such as, for example, configuring the tab pages for the selection list.

When you create a new clinical order, the system administration can activate or deactivate the order type selection list for an entire institution using the system parameter N1VKGTPA. By default, the selection list is deactivated.

Note Note

If individual users wish or do not wish to use the order list, you can define a different setting for your users in the user parameter N1VKGTPA.

End of the note.

Features

In the header area the selection list displays the initiator data that has been determined and provides the option for changing or supplementing this initiator data as well as a possibility for filtering order and request types by order fillers.

The preset data for initiators and initiating departmental OU are determined on the basis of several criteria. In particular, this is the corresponding data from the user parameter N1VKGETRVA, from the work area from which order creation was called, and if a patient was selected, the department responsible for the patient.

If it should not be possible to determine a unique department for the initiating (nursing) OU from the customizing possibilities listed, the system shows a dialog window before it displays the selection list, where you can select a department from all the available higher-level departments plus any interdepartmentally higher-level departments that are assigned.

The main area of the selection list consists of an area with an overview of all the order types available to the initiator as well as an area providing a preview of the final order. The preview area permits precise structuring by adding or removing individual services.

Selection list

Objects in the right-hand screen area (selection list) can be transferred to the preview area by selecting an entry and using the - (-) button or such entries are automatically transferred if the tab pages change. In the preview area the selected order or request types can be postprocessed or removed from this area using the - (-)button.

List of Order Types

The left-hand screen area (list of order types) displays the tab pages that the system administration has defined and assigned to the initiating OU, with the associated order types (e.g. radiology order, surgery order, etc.), order templates, request types and request profiles. See Request Type

The following functions are available in the list of order types:

  • Search

The Create Order: Service Selection dialog box (selection list for order types) contains the Find (Find) function that you can use to search for services for clinical orders on the current tab page. You can use the service code or the service text as the search criterion. Note that you can enter a wildcard (*) as a placeholder here (for example, endo*).

If you mark the Include More Services of the Orders checkbox, the system will also search for services that belong to the organizational unit’s range of services but are not assigned to a clinical order type in Customizing. Otherwise the search will include all services which were assigned to the order types displayed in the tab page in customizing. Choose Continue (Continue), to start the search.

As the search result, the system highlights in color the services that satisfy the specified criteria in the selection list for order types and automatically navigates to the first service found. If the system does not find any services, it will display a message.

  • Find next

If the system displays several services in the selection list, you can use Find Next (Find Next) to navigate to the next found service.

For each possible treatment OU (addressee), the selection list will display a separate row if the order type is available for several treatment OUs. However, you can use a filter in the header area of the selection list to restrict to specific order fillers. In addition, you can also change the initiator.

No potential treatment OU is displayed for profile types, as this definition is made within the corresponding elemental order types for this profile type.

In this selection list you can select the desired order type and the services which you wish to order or preregister for the patient or an order template. The following additional options are available for selecting:

  • Select all checkboxes which are below the current node - (-)

  • Select all checkboxes which are below the current node - (-)

    Caution Caution

The system selects or deselects services below, but not Further Services.

If you only select the checkbox on one level, the object checkboxes below will not be selected.

    End of the caution.

The selection list displays those services that are defined in the clinical order type or request type. The sequence of the services in the display is oriented towards the priority of the services in the order type or request type. In this context also note the effect of the corresponding indicators, which allow restriction of the selection list to certain subsets of the service range of the performing OU in the order or request type definition ("Only hit list services", etc.).

If a group service is defined for the request type or in the service range, the hit list will display all subordinate services indented.

Note Note

You can only select a service if the Requestable indicator is set for this service. The hit list will display non-requestable services, but these do not have a checkbox in front.

End of the note.

Every displayed object or subobject selected in the preview area of the selection list is correspondingly transferred into the detail dialog of the clinical order or the request.

If you select a group service, only this group service will be transferred to the request. The group is broken down into individual services when the service is scheduled or performed.

If you have selected a group service and a subordinate service, the system will add both the group service and the subordinate service to the clinical order or the request.

In the selection list you can also request defined request profiles. These must be included in the service range of the requesting OU and the OU-related parameter N1AFPPOST must be set so that the request profiles appear on this hit list. See Organizational Unit-Related Parameters for Requests

The selection list supports multiple selection. You can therefore request several services by different performers in one work step by selecting different order or request types. In the case of a clinical order an order with several order items is produced. See Several Requests in One Work Step for the case of a request.

Choose Continue (Continue) to transfer the selected order type(s), the order template and the selected services into the Create Clinical Order screen.
