Changing Drugs
To change the drug for one or more orders, you can use the Change Drug
function.
In the Select Alternatives
dialog box you can select a drug and create a subsequent order for it dependent on the order status.
Note
Note that the start of validity of the subsequent order is preset with the system time and the end of validity is preset with the end of validity of the original order. The system then sets the end of validity of the original order to the start of validity of the subsequent order.
The orders to be changed have the internal status saved
, active
or inactive
.
Note
You can only choose the Change Drug
function in the order detail dialog if the displayed order no longer has the internal status saved
.
Select one or more orders in the order dialog or in a view of the view type Medication Orders.
Note
In the order detail dialog, you can change only the order that is displayed.
Choose
Drug
(Change Drug
) in the order dialog or in a view, or
(Change Drug
) in the order detail dialog.
If you have set a default change reason in the user-specific presettings, the system transfers it from the presettings without user input. Otherwise, you can enter a change reason for each order to be chanded that no longer has the internal status saved
.
For information about this, see:
The Select Alternatives
dialog box appears. Select one of the offered alternative drugs or search for and transfer one or more drugs from the drug search.
For orders with the internal status active
or inactive
, the system creates subsequent orders with the selected drugs, in each case.
For drugs with the internal status saved
, the system changes the saved order.
Note
To remove subsequent orders from the order sequence, you can call the Remove from Order Sequence
function to remove the new order from the order sequence.
For more information about this, see Removing Orders from Order Sequence.
If the selected drug satisfies the rules of substitution, all dosage information regarding the concentration of the agent is retained. If this is not the case, the system proposes the standard dose of the new drug.
Note
If events have already been generated for the original orders, the system automatically calls event generation for the subsequent orders.
The pharmacist wishes to replace drug A (500 mg per tablet) with drug B (250 mg per tablet), because delivery problems mean that drug A can no longer be supplied.
Select the order to be changed (drug A, 1-0-1 tablets daily) and call
Drug
(Change Drug
). In the Select Alternatives
dialog box the system also displays drug B as this contains the same agent and, in the internal drug catalog (formulary), is flagged for administration use.
Select drug B and confirm. The system creates a subsequent order with drug B and an adjusted dose of 2-0-2 tablets daily.
