The Clinical Order is used to order treatments or preregister patients for a treatment.

Preregistration for a treatment and ordering a treatment with or without services are available as specifications of the clinical order.

The preregistration in its old form is no longer available as it was replaced with the clinical order.

The service request is still available alongside the clinical order. However, it will not be developed further.

You can also order or preregister treatments without services in the clinical order.

Example Example

The initiator of a clinical order enters an order item without a service. He creates a comment for the clinical order, which contains information on the patient (e.g. permanent tiredness). The initiator does not have to enter the ordered services immediately in the clinical order. He can specify the services (e.g. ergometry) later, for example, when the order items are actually ordered at the service facility (status change of order item). The service facility (Order Filler) can also specify the services upon receipt of the clinical order.

The functions of the clinical order are available for care units, outpatient clinics, and service facilities.

A clinical order consists of the following elements:

You define the order header and order items of a clinical order in the Order Type. The clinical order bundles these order items, created using order types, and represents a kind of wrapper for these order items. The content and design of a clinical order is therefore dependent on the order items.

The following properties distinguish the clinical order:

  • Several order items which can be addressed to different recipients (performers).

  • Unification of preregistration and service request (both are specifications of the clinical order in i.s.h.med)

  • Extensive dialog interface

  • Flexible status concept

  • Status-dependent field properties at order item level

  • Change tracking

  • Enhancement opportunities using clinical application components

  • Object-oriented technical basis

    All functions for entering and processing clinical orders are available in the clinical work station, the patient organizer, and, with restrictions, in the radiology work station.

Implementation Considerations

If you wish to use clinical orders in your hospital, you have to define system parameter N1CORDER in the Overall Parameter Maintenance IMG activity. Note Note

You can use clinical orders and the old service request alongside each other.

In processes in which order data is communicated to a subsystem using the standard HCM message (message type 201) or HL7 message (message type ORU) you must continue to use the old service request.
