Restatement
You use this function to make retroactive adjustments to previously published consolidated financial statements. Retroactive adjustments may be required due to changes in accounting principles or to the group structure, or to implement corrections to previously published financial statements.
You can use a restatement to reflect the following structure changes:
Changed consolidation unit hierarchy
Changed consolidation chart of accounts or changed subassignments
You can also use the restatement function in planning scenarios to determine how structure changes would influence the financial statements.
You have activated the Financials, Group Close, Restatement Monitor
business function.
You have created a restatement characteristic and assigned it the Restatement
role. For more information, see Creating Restatement Characteristics.
The restatement function is based on a characteristic with the Restatement
role. If you have assigned the Restatement
role to a characteristic, the system generates this characteristic in the Documents
data stream.
If you want to execute restatements for additional financial data or group-dependent entries, you must add the restatement characteristic to the data streams for additional financial data and then regenerate the data basis. For more information, see Restatement of Additional Financial Data and Group-Dependent Entries.
The characteristic with the Restatement
role is a permanent parameter. By specifying a restatement value in the permanent parameters, you can process a restatement in the consolidation workbench and in the consolidation monitor. For example, you can manually enter transaction data on all posting levels, perform automatic data collection, and execute automatic tasks.
The restatement value for the original data is initial. The system saves the restatement data and original data in different data slices. Restatement data and original data are therefore kept strictly separate. The data of the actual financial statement does not contain restatement data.
Restatement-relevant characteristics have an enhanced validity. This allows you to use new or changed characteristic values and hierarchical assignments retroactively, and to apply structure changes retroactively in restatements.
For more information, see Restatement-Relevant Characteristics.
You can activate the Restatement of Consolidation Group-Dependent Postings
function for each consolidation area. To do this, you must first generate the restatement characteristic to the data streams for additional financial data. The following functions are then available:
You can assign special hierarchy versions to restatement data slices.
You can enter additional financial data for restatements.
You can execute consolidation tasks for consolidation group-dependent entries using posting levels 02
, 12
, 22
, and 30
for non-initial restatements.
If you have activated the Financials, Group Close, Business Combinations
business function, you can also post entries using posting levels 32
and 35
for non-initial restatements.
For more information, see Restatement of Additional Financial Data and Group-Dependent Entries.
Create a restatement characteristic value for each restatement that you want to create. In the master data for the restatement, define the restatement period, the validity, and the reference.
For more information, see Master Data for Restatements.
In the data collection methods Flexible Upload
, Copy (Method)
, and Load from Data Stream
, you can specify one of the following input types for restatements.
Difference to Reference Data
: The source data (upload file, source environment of the copy or InfoProvider if the load from data stream method is used) contains the difference to the reference values of the current restatement data slice.
The system posts the values from the source data.
Total Values
: The source data contains the total values of the current restatement data slice.
The system posts only the difference between the source data and the values in the reference restatement.
Note
For the Goodwill
and Noncurrent Assets - Consolidated
data streams, you cannot select the input type for restatements. Since these are group-dependent output streams, there are no references, which means each restatement data slice contains the full value.
You can create one separate task hierarchy for each restatement characteristic value in a consolidation area.
The Restatement
role is status-relevant. Status management in the consolidation monitor indicates the task status for each restatement.
For more information, see Task Sequence and Task Hierarchy for Restatements.
In the balance carryforward, you can merge data that you entered in a restatement in the prior year with other restatements or the original data. You can also suppress the balance carryforward for individual restatement data slices.
For more information, see Assignment of Restatements in the Balance Carryforward.
Within a given year, you can use data for a specific restatement data slice to trigger reclassification in another restatement data slice.
To do this, you specify a restatement characteristic value as the trigger in Customizing for reclassification methods.
For more information, see Reclassification.
Execution of tasks in multiple periods is also possible in restatements. You can execute restatement tasks for a period that spans multiple periods. If you do this, the following applies:
The starting year and starting period are defined by the valid-from period that you specify in the restatement characteristic.
The ending year and ending period are defined by the valid-to period that you specify in the restatement characteristic.
The consolidation frequency is specified in the version combination for the current year (the fiscal year that you specify in the permanent parameters).
Consolidation must be complete in the lower restatement data slices in the consolidation cycle.
For more information, see Multiperiod Consolidation.
In reporting, you can run reports on the original data combined with the restatement data.
You use the reporting mode Restatement
for reporting on restatements.
For more information, see Reporting on Restatements.
