VehiclesA vehicle is the means by which you transport product from one location to another. In TD, a vehicle is defined in a master data record. This is done for the following reasons:
Each vehicle is unique and consists of a fixed number of transport units
Each transport unit is unique and consists of a fixed number of compartments
Each compartment is unique and is used as the basis to schedule and load product for transport.
Although the following figure uses a truck as an example, TD supports the following types of vehicles:
Trucks (road transport)
Trains (rail transport)
Ships (marine transport)
Barges (inland water transport)
Pipelines (pipeline transport)
The vehicle type defines the mode of transport, such as road, rail, or marine and other vehicle attributes. When creating a vehicle you must first choose a vehicle type. Vehicle types are defined in Customizing.
The vehicle is defined as a logical combination of transport units within the vehicle master data record. For example, a vehicle can be created with a combination of a mover and a number of trailers. This method of grouping allows vehicles to be broken up and regrouped to form another vehicle. The vehicle type determines what type of transport units can be assigned to a vehicle.
Certain vehicle attributes are stored in the vehicle master data record, while other vehicle attributes are defined for the vehicle type in Customizing and are copied into the master data record when creating a vehicle. Vehicle attributes pertaining to the physical dimensions of the vehicle are defined when creating vehicle master data.
License types are assigned when creating a vehicle.
Vehicles are used during scheduling, at which point you can also assign a driver to the vehicle.
Transport units are the building blocks used to create vehicles. A vehicle consists of at least one transport unit and a transport unit consists of at least one compartment .
The Equipment number is created through the Plant Maintenance (PM) application component.
carrier (service agent) is created as vendor master data in Purchasing, and can be assigned to vehicles to represent the owner or shipper. Carriers are also used in Shipment Costing.
Assigning license types is an optional step you can take when creating vehicle master data. License data can be recorded and used to ensure that the driver assigned to a vehicle during scheduling has the necessary qualifications to drive the vehicle.
Driver license data and vehicle license data are created independent of one another, but you can compare the licenses assigned to the driver with the licenses assigned to the vehicle to make sure they are compatible. The licenses available for assignment to vehicles are taken from the license table in Customizing.
You can define license types in Customizing for
IS Oil & Gas (Downstream)
by choosing
TD (Transportation and Distribution) → TD Master Data → Define license types
