Compartment AssignmentA transport unit with loading capacity consists of one or more compartments. A compartment is a fixed part of the transport unit. You assign compartments to transport units, when you create the master data record for a transport unit.
Compartments are important to the Bulk Transportation and Distribution processes, because scheduling and loading occur at the compartment level. Therefore, an accurate modeling of the compartments at the master data level is essential for bulk shipment processing.
You can only assign compartments to the transport unit if the transport unit type selected has a load-bearing capacity.
You enter the compartment details in the transport unit master data transaction.
When you enter the details for a compartment, each individual compartment is numbered sequentially so that it can be identified later. The system stores the minimum and maximum volumes for each compartment together with a description.
The combined volume of the compartments is then used to calculate the total volume of the transport unit. Compartments do not exist independently within the system; they can only be defined as subdivisions of a transport unit.
Example
If you have a compartment which is defined as having a minimum volume of 1,000 L, there would be problems associated with trying to schedule one delivery of 500 L into the compartment.
As part of the compatibility checking process, a compatibility group may be entered, which is checked against the product compatibility group of the material which is scheduled for that particular compartment. Assuming that the compartment has all the necessary characteristics required for the product, the product/compartment assignment is allowed.
After you have entered the compartment details, you can assign compartments to vehicle meters.
Assigning Transport Unit Meters to Compartments
From the
Create/Change Transport Unit: Details
screen, choose
In the
Create/Change Transport Unit: Meter Assignment
screen, enter a meter and choose
. The system displays a list of all compartments that are currently assigned to the transport unit.
By selecting a compartment, you assign it to the meter which has been selected.
Note
When you select the
All
checkbox next to the meter entered on the
Meter Assignment
screen, the meter is automatically assigned to all compartments of the transport unit.
Entering Compartments and Meters Simultaneously
You can simultaneously assign compartments and meters. This is intended primarily for use during batch input sessions, when the use of checkboxes and pop up windows would be inconvenient.
Any assignment made can be displayed either in the format of meters assigned to compartments or compartments assigned to meters. From the
Create/Change Transport Unit:

screen, choose:
