Compatibility Checking

Purpose

You can create compatibility checks to ensure:

  • Products are compatible with the compartments

  • Vehicles are compatible with the customers

The characteristics of the products, compartments, vehicles, and customers are represented in the system using Compatibility Indicators . These compatibility indicators are grouped into Compatibility Groups . If desired, the compatibility checking function can be turned off in Customizing for the Bulk Shipment Type .

Example Example

A customer needs a truck with a specific logo and a long hose to unload the product. The supplier’s vehicle has to meet these requirements, that is, the attributes have to be compatible. But not all of the attributes have to be the same. An object can have more attributes than needed, as long as all requirements have been fulfilled.

End of the example.

Compatibility Fields in Material Master

The material master contains a product/compartment compatibility field used to assign compatibility groups to products. It is located in the shipping section of the sales/plant view of the material master.

Indicators within the assigned product group must correspond to the indicator group assigned to the compartment.

Compatibility Fields in Customer Master

The customer master record contains the Cust. compat. group (customer compatibility group) field used to assign compatibility groups to customers. This field is located in the Shipping view of the customer master record. One customer compatibility group can be assigned to each customer.

Customer compatibility groups are used in scheduling when selecting vehicles for a shipment. The attributes defined in the customer compatibility group must also be defined for the compatibility group of the selected vehicle. The vehicle compatibility group is assigned to the vehicle in the vehicle master record and is compared to the customer compatibility group. In this way, you can ensure that the vehicle which is assigned to the shipment is compatible with the customer.

Process Flow

  1. In Customizing, create the following compatibility indicators:

  • Product/compartment (for example diesel fuels)

  • Vehicle/customer (for example, hose with a minimum length of 20 m)

  1. Define compatibility groups as master data:

  • Product group

  • Compartment group

  • Vehicle group

  • Customer group

  1. As master data, assign the compatibility indicators which were created in Customizing to the compatibility groups.

Defining Compatibility Groups

Assigning Compatibility Indicators
