Creating Proposals from the Short Text Editor

Procedure

You can create proposals in the proposal pool while translating short texts in the short text editor by following the instructions in this topic.

Enter your translation in the translation line in the short text editor, or change the existing translation.

Note
The short text editor includes two functions that enable you to create system standards in the proposal pool without having to branch to the proposal pool first: Create system standard with status S for modified lines and Create proposal immediately (system standard with status S). For more information on these functions, see Translating in the Short Text Editor.
To access the proposal pool, click the Branch to Proposal Pool icon in the status bar of the translation line. For more information on how to access the proposal pool from the short text editor, see Accessing the Proposal Pool and Translating in the Short Text Editor. The Edit Proposals (Length Restriction: <length of translation line>) screen appears. The source text for which you’d like to create a proposal is displayed at the top of the proposal pool. Directly beneath the source text, the text that you entered in the translation line in the short text editor is displayed next to the Change Target Text icon. This is the translation that you can now create as a proposal for the source text. If proposals already exist for the source text, they are displayed automatically. If the proposal that you are about to create already exists, it is displayed and highlighted. If the proposal that you are about to create existed in the past but has been deleted, it is displayed and flagged with a small trashcan icon.
If you want to create a different text as a proposal for the source text, click the Change Target Text icon, use the resulting dialog box to enter the text you’d like to create as a proposal, and choose Continue.
Click the Create/Update Proposal icon next to the type of proposal you want to create:
- To create a system standard, click the Create/Update Proposal icon next to System Standard.
- To create a domain standard for the domain to which the object belongs, click the Create/Update Proposal icon next to Domain Standard. Note that the domain to which the object belongs is displayed directly above the System Standard node in the proposal pool. If you want to create a domain standard for a domain that is not currently displayed, click Display Additional Domain. A dialog box appears for you to double-click the domain that you require.

  If you want to use this function, your translator profile must include the authorization object PPDO with value 01.
- To create an exception, click the Create/Update Proposal icon under the node of the required domain and next to Exception.
- To create an abbreviation, click the Create Abbreviation icon next to the proposal for which you want to define the abbreviation. For more information on how to create abbreviations, see Creating Abbreviations and Full Texts.
All proposals in the proposal pool, except exceptions, have a quality status. The Select Status dialog box appears if you are creating a system standard, domain standard, or abbreviation.

Select the quality status that you want to assign to the proposal.

Your translator profile determines which quality statuses you are authorized to assign.

Note
You can create a system standard, assign a quality status to it, and return to the short text editor in a single step. Depending on the required quality status, choose the A, S, B, or X icon in the application toolbar.

You can also create a domain standard, assign a quality status to it, and return to the short text editor in a single step. However, you can only do this for the domain to which the short text object belongs. Depending on the required quality status, choose the A (<xx>), S (<xx>), B (<xx>), or X (<xx>) icon in the application toolbar where <xx> stands for the domain to which the short text object belongs.

Result

You have created the translation in a translation line in the short text editor as a proposal for the source text. Note that the system saves proposals automatically as you create them. You do not need to save them manually. To return to the short text editor, choose Back.
