Short Text Editor
Use
You translate short text objects in the short text editor. These are objects that consist of one or more separate lines of text. For example, data elements consist of up to five texts that are offered for translation in five separate lines. A short text is limited to 255 characters in one line.
You translate in the short text editor with the aid of the proposal pool.
Integration
The system opens the short text editor automatically when you call up a short text object for translation. You call up objects for translation in transaction SE63, either via your worklist or directly.
The proposal pool helps you translate in the short text editor. If a best proposal exists in the proposal pool for your source text, it is displayed beneath the translation line and you can copy it into the translation line with a double-click. During translation, you can branch directly to the proposal pool from the short text editor and then create or change entries. A translation line only has translated status within the translation environment if an entry has been maintained in the proposal pool. However, you are not obliged to use the proposal pool; you only have to create and save an entry in the translation line for the translation to be available in the system.

You can adapt the short text editor so that it meets your requirements by maintaining the settings.
After calling up a short text object for translation, you see the following information in the title bar of the short text editor:

Domain to which the object belongs
The domain to which an object belongs is derived from its collection. The system takes the domain into account when determining which proposal is the best proposal. If a single character (such as J) is displayed in the title bar, ask your translation coordinator to refresh the domain assignment.

Each translation line consists of the following elements:

If you click on the status bar, you can call up technical information on the object that is currently open. You can obtain the following information from and use the following functions in the status bar:

Technical key, which is regenerated each time the object is called up.

Colors are used to indicate the translation status of each line. Red stands for the translation status new, yellow for modified, and green for translated.

Number of proposals in the proposal pool, which is displayed next to the
icon. The following proposals are included in this number: system standards, and domain standards and exceptions (in all domains). Abbreviations and deleted proposals are not included in the figure.

You can save your work in the short text editor at any time, irrespective of whether all of the lines in the short text object have been translated. You can call the object up again later, and continue your work. While translating in the short text editor, you are not obliged to create proposals in the proposal pool. However, if you do not maintain the proposal pool, you cannot reuse translations because you have no best proposals, and therefore no automatic distribution.
